Felis chaus prateri is a subspecies of the jungle cat that inhabits western India and Sindh.[1]
In the 1930s, Pocock reviewed the Natural History Museum’s jungle cat skins and skulls from British India and adjacent countries. Based mainly on differences in fur length and colour he newly described six larger skins from Sind under the trinomen Felis chaus prateri.[2]
It inhabits wetlands in areas with arid climates, and lives under dense and wet jungle cover. It is mostly sighted alone, but spotted in pairs as well. During the day it hunts for food, and rests at night. It feeds on rodents such as Nesokia and Tatera, as well as fish from the Indus River.[3]
