PewDiePie's This Book Loves You is a parody of self-help books, released on 20 October 2015 by Penguin Group.[1] The book includes various aphorisms and wisdom/jokes, paired with visuals.[2] The book is available both as a paperback edition and an e-book.[3] This book is available for purchase through numerous retailers in Australia, Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the U.K. and the U.S.[4]

The paperback edition contains around 240 illustrated pages with parody quotes.[3]

The book was described as being a coffee-table styled book.[5]

The book was published in numerous languages other than English.[citation needed]

Inspiration

PewDiePie has stated that the original idea for writing the book was given by his fans on Twitter. PewDiePie had posted a parody of an inspirational quote on social media, to which his fans reacted by posting what he told in funny images. He stated that this was where "it all began", as he wanted to do something more with the idea.He also stated that it would be a great chance to reach his audience in a new way.[5][6]

Promotion

The book was promoted at numerous occasions. PewDiePie signed many books as a part of the promotion in London, on October 18, 2015.

Most of the promotion, which ultimately resulted in the book's success, was through his This Book Loves You Tour. PewDiePie started the tour on October 18, 2015, in London, then headed on to Leers, Manchester, New York, and finally to Los Angeles. The tour ended in San Francisco, California, on November 1.[7]

Reception

This Book Loves You became a New York Times Bestseller and remained on the list for a week.[8] The book received generally positive reviews from the Goodreads community, with an average rating of 4.1 out of 5.[9] Barnes & Noble has given it 4.6/5.[10]

Amazon.com's 300+ customer reviews put it at 4.6/5 stars.[11]

Negative feedback

Some people felt that the book was just another means of diversifying his income and gathering huge amounts of money for PewDiePie by exploiting his massive Youtube fanbase. The book was critisized for its improper and uninteresting delivery of 'quotes' through the book, which didn't features emotional depth of any kind.

A few sources deemed the book valueless and critisiced it's failed attempt to endorse funny content. Some negatively responded stating that buying this book would lead to a waste of money and the book wasn't worth it.[12][13]
