Please join us for a fun, inclusive one-day event that brings together diverse communities to create and improve Wikipedia articles related to women in the arts. Despite its wide reach, Wikipedia suffers from a severe gender imbalance: since most editors are men, articles conform to men's interests and perspectives. In an effort to change this, we are gathering diverse women and allies together to celebrate women's cultural achievements and discuss openly ongoing challenges caused by structural sexism. (Learn more about the gender gap at WikiProject Women. More about Art+Feminism campaign on their page.)

This event is hosted by the CU Boulder Libraries and the Boulder Feminism Initiative and is open to the community.

Event information

Please bring a laptop if possible. There will be a limited number of computers available.

What to expect

No Wikipedia editing experience necessary; as needed throughout the event, tutoring will be provided for Wikipedia newcomers. Women editors, especially women of color and diverse gender expression, are particularly encouraged to attend. If you are unfamiliar with Wikipedia, you can get a head start with this this training module.

Suggested topics

The following is a sampling of suggested articles to create or add upon. However, feel free to come up with your own ideas! In addition to the suggestions below, editors may consider cleaning up articles on more well-known women artists. Helpful updates could be as simple as: Making sure reference links are still appropriate and functional; Adding new inline citations/references; Adding a photo; Adding an infobox; Adding data to more fields in an existing infobox; Creating headings; Adding categories; etc. Editors may also choose to focus on women in design, performing arts, music, architecture, literature, philosophy, politics, etc.

Colorado women artist articles to edit or create

Here are some suggestions (below) for Colorado women artists who currently lack articles or whose articles need expansion or editing. Please utilize the resources of the CU Libraries and don't hesitate to ask for help! Please feel free to add more artists!
