Introduction of the product was announced June 26, 2014 in Richmond, Virginia. Initial marketing is planned for cities in Italy and Japan. HeatSticks are manufactured at two plants in Italy.[2] Philip Morris has projected sales of tens of billions and profits of hundreds of millions.[3]
In 2007 PMI launched Heatbar. The electronic smoking device heated cigarettes without burning them.[1] The former product Heatbar is no longer sold.[2]
