Dibship Rising is an episode of the television series Invader Zim, originally produced as episode 25B. Although this episode did not air on Nickelodeon in the US, this episode aired on the Nicktoons Network on July 15, 2006.
Plot
Dib attempts to control Tak's ship (see "Tak, the Hideous New Girl"), but it is fruitless, as her personality is very well-ingrained into her ship. Dib then transfers his personality into the ship, which works. However, the ship believes it is the actual Dib, as it has Dib's memories. So he puts it in sleep mode while he goes to bed to figure out the mess in the morning.
Soon, the ship wreaks havoc, and Zim catches on to its identity crisis, and then takes control of its hapless personality, steering it to ensnare Dib, which works. Dib is taken prisoner and Zim and GIR force Tak's ship to run about skyscrapers, sealing Dib's fate.
Dib attempts to get the robot to remember himself, and the ship struggles with the conflicting forces. Soon, the ship comes to the edge of the dump, where Dib is to be drowned in the garbage. But in a well-timed plot notion, the ship remembers, and saves Dib, settling his identity problems.
Sadly, however, the ship decides that Dib's life is in the end utterly pathetic, and decides to shut itself down...very, very, very slowly while moping about Dib's life.
Trivia
- Olivia D'Abo guest stars again as Tak (or more accurately, Tak's personality); the previous time was in Backseat Drivers.
- The episode title is either a reference to the book Dark Force Rising, a Star Wars book by Timothy Zahn, as both refer to spaceships, or a book named Esperanza Rising. [1]
- Dib claiming having saved a schoolbus full of ugly children from a moose is a reference to episode A Room with a Moose
- This episode was mistakingly named "The Dib-Ship" in a few airs on Nicktoons.
