Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 (known as Dragon Ball Z: Sparking! NEO in Japan) is an upcoming fighting game to be released on PlayStation 2 and Wii. It is the sequel to Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi. There are to be over 130 characters in this new fighter/roleplayer game. In-game transformations have been confirmed, but it is a different way from the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai series of games. This method is to be confirmed soon. From a recent magazine scan, it has been confirmed that fusions can be performed in-battle, but how has not yet been confirmed. The game has 16 massive arenas, 11 taken from other games and expanded from, and 9 game modes. A customizer has been made to change the characters, but in what ways is yet to be confirmed. It has been visually verified that the Dueling Mode will feature 'Battle Settings'. Judging from it's menu, players will be able to adjust the dueling time, com level, life gauge and set the 'In-Game Transformations' on or off during gameplay.

A recent article on 1Up.com indicates that the Wii version of the game will feature a unique control scheme using the system's remote controller. It was confirmed in Nintendo Power that gamers, using the motion sensing controller, will be able to control their fighters by carrying a remote in each hand and mimicking moves from the series. A recent preview from IGN has confirmed that the Wii version will allow players to choose whether they play using the Wii Remote or a GameCube controller. [1]

Release date information

GameStop has confirmed that it will allow pre-release shipping available for the US on October 17, 2006. However, neoseeker sources state that BT2 will be released later on December 25, 2006, making a Christmas release. It is unsure whether neoseeker is a reliable source as they have the Wii version for Budokai Tenkaichi 2 scheduled for a Q4 2007 release. A recent Japanese website known as Club Dragon Ball however, have announced it is scheduled for release in Japan on October 14 this year. Club Dragon Ball also states that all characters ever featured on any Dragon Ball game will be playable characters in the sequel and that battles will now involve up to four characters fighting simultaneously on the battle field. This is referring to Tag team options. In a recent V-Jump and Weekly Shonen Jump scans, it has listed the release date for October 5, 2006 for the PS2 Version of the game. They also have listed the January, 2007 release date for the Wii version of the game. Both of these release date are for the Japanese version of the game. The official site of this game: http://dbzs-neo.jp. The PAL version is set for release October 27, 2006.

Fake Characters

Like most DBZ Video Games, Tenkaichi 2 is drawing many rumors of fake characters, such as Toma(see here). There have also been many fake scans showing characters such as Androids 14 and 15, Piccolo Daimao, and Yakon. None of these characters are in the game, however, nor will they ever be added, as all 130 playable characters have already been shown.[2] Many fan forums and ect have fallen for the fakes, introducing them to the public as official. Thus, many fans are now convinced that the characters will be in the game. There is also a rumor of "secret" characters, which has yet to be proven true or false.
