*'''Oppose''' - [https://www.google.com/#q=chibi-usa&tbm=nws reliable sources use "Chibiusa" almost universally]. Since "Chibi-usa" is only being used by the most recent manga translation, [[WP:RECENTISM]] and [[WP:COMMONNAME]] applies. Requested move 29 May 2016

ChibiusaChibi-Usa – The official English translation as used by Kodansha Comics USA. Last time this came up, Viz started to release the anime and Kodansha was not that far behind releasing their version of the manga. Since I read the manga and watch the anime, Chibi-usa's name has a hyphen in-between that name. Seeing as Kodansha overtook Viz when it released the entire Japanese manga, and because the manga is the primary medium, I think we should consider switching to Kodansha's name. • Oppose - No policy-based reason given for move. WP:COMMONNAME applies. You're claiming that the manga is the primary medium, but it isn't in English. The dubbed anime TV series by DIC was the first medium to be released in an English-speaking country, and that was literally 20 years ago. So to turn around and say "only the latest translation is right" is pretty arbitrary. Whether it's DIC, Viz, or Kodansha, a licensed translation is official. Anyhow, getting back to COMMONNAME, 428K GHits for Chibiusa, and if you compare the searches, even Google redirects the hyphenated form. MSJapan (talk) 18:50, 2 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That could be reasonable points, but I want to add to my rationale that even if the DIC dubbed anime is the first medium released in English, the anime counts an adaptation of the primary work (i.e. the manga) since all of the anime adaptations are based on the manga, correct? I would also like to quote the relevant information on WP:MOSANIME: "Characters should be identified by the names used in the official English releases of the series. If there are multiple English releases, such as both a manga and anime, use the one that is best known and that has contributed most to the work's becoming known in the English-speaking world (usually the primary work)." However, there's a fact: "If there is no official title, Characters should be identified by their most commonly known name, as per Wikipedia's naming conventions" (emphasis mine). In this case, we mostly go by the Japanese names of the characters (as is in the original manga/anime releases in Japan), with only the dub name changes noted in the different sections. And given that there are three different namings (DIC/Cloverway: Chibiusa (Rini in the dub), Kodansha USA: Chibi-Usa, Viz: Chibi-usa), there can be only one common name and consensus can change, I thought we should get a consensus from other members of the project to see if we can move it to the more modern translation "Chibi-usa" or just keep it as "Chibiusa". Unless someone objects, I'll go ahead and notify WP:ANIME members of this matter and see what can be done. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 22:02, 2 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
