Villars Maitre Chocolatier is a Swiss chocolate company founded in 1901 and based in the city of Fribourg. The company is noted for its success in selling to tourists, owing to a number of unique quality products, including chocolates with an unusually high percentage (generally 20%) of nuts such as hazelnuts or almonds , a 72% cocoa dark chocolate bar, as well as several liqueur-filled chocolates such as with Kirsch (swiss-cherry-brandy) or apricot brandy, and also napolitains.[1] The brand is actually hard to find in most places in Switzerland, where the Swiss either go to the local specialty shop house-chocolate maker, or buy the lower priced main brands at the omnipresent main supermarkets such as COOP or Migros supermarket-brand-chocolate.
