Tafila Technical University (TTU) (Arabic جامعة الطفيلة التقنية), is a public university in Jordan.

History

On 17 January 2005, a Royal Decree was issued to establish Tafila Technical University which currently contributes to the development of higher education in Jordan.[1] TTU is the 9th public university in Jordan. It considered the first specialized technical university in Jordan.[1]

Colleges

College of engineering

With the establishment of Tafila Technical University, COE was established on 17 January 2005 with three departments: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Natural Resources and Chemical Engineering. COE has five academic departments offering eleven programs in various disciplines. The college has (110) faculty members and about 3000 students. This number will hopefully increase in the coming years. The college has awarded (60) outstanding students with scholarships to pursue their master and doctoral degrees in various disciplines[2]

College of sciences

College of Sciences was established right after the establishment of TTU in 2005, and it includes the following departments: Chemistry and Chemical Technology, Applied Physics, and Mathematics and Computer Science. The study plans of Chemistry and Chemical Technology have been adopted and approved since 2005. The program of chemical technology is offered at TTU only.

At the beginning of the academic year of 2007/2008, the program of Computer Information Systems was offered at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, and of the academic year 2015/2016, the program of Applied Biology was offered at the Department of Applied Biology.[3]

College of Business

When the COB was established in 2005, it had the Department of Economics only. College of Arts

The College of Arts was founded in 2006. It started with the Department of Arabic, Department of English and Department of Humanities and Social Sciences. The departments of English and Arabic have had bachelor programs since then. The college first had 10 faculty members, 3 administrative staff members. Currently, the college houses 22 faculty members, 5 administrative staff members.[5]

College of Educational Sciences

COES was founded in 2005. It includes two departments: department of educational psychology, and Department of Curriculum and Instruction. COES offers two master programs on curriculum and instruction as well as three bachelor programs on child education, special education, and classroom teacher. In addition, COES offers a number of higher general diploma programs on school administration, general education, special education, learning difficulties and teaching technology, The number of faculty members in the COES approaches (29)[6]

Centers

There are six centers at TTU. Most of them are newly established and their work is mainly administrative. The centers are:

  • Community Partnership Center
