He married Margaret Butler, daughter to Piers Butler, 8th Earl of Ormond (Ireland). In 1522 he was part of a confederation of Connacht forces that marched to Sligo to give battle to the O'Donnells, who were conquering north Connacht. However, the expedition fell apart without a fight after the failure of Conn Bacach O'Neill to defeat O'Donnell.
