Broadcasting at the frequency of 105.9 FM, in Orlando, Florida, WOCL is a major station in the Central Florida radio market. Known colloquially as "O-Rock," the station can be heard not only in the Orlando area, but also as far away as the Space Coast, Brevard County, and the eastern shores of Central Florida.
This radio station adheres to the New Rock/Alternative format. Like most of the stations that follow this format, however, the majority of the songs they play are actually from the 1990's. Indeed "O-Rock" often dedicates entire weekends to playing "Old School Alternative" songs (songs from the 1990's).
O-Rock has one direct competitor in the Orlando area, WJRR, who broadcasts at 101.1 FM.
Personalities/Programs
Morning After Show (6am-10am) -- The morning slot has been in a state of flux since the departure of Howard Stern from their lineup. The general format of the morning slot is the usual two male DJs and one "sexy" female DJ taking calls and generally having inane banter and giving traffic reports in between occasionally playing a song or two.
Jody & Scott Show (6pm-10pm) -- Is currently by far the most notorious bit of programming on WOCL. The pair consists of two "shock jocks," in the tradition of early Opie and Anthony. (The voices of the two men even sound eerily similar to a young Opie and Anthony from their WAAF days). Jody is an Orlando native, having graduated from the University of Central Florida, and Scott is a native of Massachusetts, having lived in Central Florida most of his life, although he did return to Boston for his undergraduate education.
While Jody and Scott are still radio DJs in the strict sense, in between the songs they play the pair do humorous "bits," many of them are regular features on the program. Past features included the often mock-tragic "Rolling Fat Chicks down a Hill," and a current regular feature is the ever-popular "Drop a Deuce in your Can, Brah?" in which either Jody or Scott themselves or one of their flunkies audio records himself at an unsuspecting homedwellers door, persistently begging to be allowed to "Drop a Deuce in your can, Brah?"
In addition to the featured segments, the Jody and Scott Show also includes regular characters and callers. A distinct "criminal" element is noticeable amongst this coterie. One regular factotum of the two DJs is even named "Criminal Ben," and according to his own admission, he spent two years in federal prison. Upon his release from incareration, "DJ Banana Shorts" has become a frequent visitor in the studio, relating the pitfalls of his life ranging from trying to assimilate into society to attempting to further his fledgling career as a rapper.
