Template:Future sport The 2006-07 NCAA College Football Bowl Games schedule is the largest post-season lineup ever, with the addition of the new stand-alone Bowl Championship Series National Championship Game as well as the first game to be played outside the USA since the late Bacardi Bowl in Havana, Cuba back in 1937, the International Bowl in Toronto, Ontario and two additional games - the Birmingham Bowl and the New Mexico Bowl - as part of a record 36 post-season games (including the post-BCS all-star games) scheduled between the Poinsettia Bowl on December 19, 2006, and the post-season-ending Hula Bowl on January 28, 2007. Thus, 64 teams out of the 119 in Division I-A will be playing in the post season.

Changes

  • The new stand-alone BCS National Championship debuts with the double-hosting plan. The BCS Championship and the Fiesta Bowl will now be played at the brand new Cardinals Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
  • Several games have changed television rights holders. For example, FOX takes over the BCS games sans the Rose Bowl (the Rose Bowl will remain on ABC under a separate contract). The NFL Network will televise their first college post-season game, the Texas Bowl on December 28 at Reliant Stadium. The NFL Network will also televise the Insight Bowl on December 29, the All-American Classic on January 15, and the Senior Bowl on January 27. CBS returns to the New Year's Day bowl picture after a prolonged absence as they have acquired the telecast rights to the Toyota Gator Bowl, replacing NBC, leaving the Peacock network without a bowl game for the first time in NBC's history.
  • The Houston Bowl has been renamed the Texas Bowl and will be played despite the sponsors suffering a major collapse of finances; the NCAA approved a new operators of the game to be played on December 28 at Reliant Stadium. The game will be promoted by Lone Star Sports and Entertainment, the marketing arm of the Houston Texans who play in the stadium.
  • The Fort Worth Bowl has been renamed the Armed Forces Bowl. The title sponsor is Bell Helicopter. The location of the game and the bowl tie-ins will remain the same.
  • The Texas vs. The Nation Game is a brand new postseason all-star game that will be played in El Paso, Texas at the Sun Bowl Stadium. A team of top-rated college seniors who have played either college or high school football in Texas will face a team comprised of other top-rated seniors from around the nation. A time, date and broadcast network have yet to be determined.

NOTE: All times Eastern Standard Time (UTC-5).
