Founding
Everipedia was founded in 2015 in California[2] by Sam Kazemian and Theodor Forselius.[3] Christian Deciga, Angel Ordaz, David Liebowitz, Navin Vethanayagam, Travis Moore, Mahbod Moghadam (founder of "Rap Genius"), Wharton sophomore George Beall, Konstantine Nikka-Sher Piterman, Soona Amhaz and Millie Efraim comprise the Founding Team of the site. The team have stated that they feel "Wikipedia isn't cool", and that Everipedia has solved this.[3] In interviews, Mahbod Moghadam contends that 30,000 people control the knowledge that people see in Wikipedia.[3]
Comparison to Wikipedia
Everipedia is different from Wikipedia in that its use of social media elements.[4] The creators state that editing requires no coding or scripting.[4] Everipedia has no notability requirements for content and as a result allows users create pages about anyone or anything.[5] Everipedia claim that their website is also more effective than Wikipedia in battling "wiki trolls", although the site does not claim to implement any additional anti-vandalism measures as compared to Wikipedia.[1]
Everipedia's terms of service, compared to Wikipedia's, are non-free and require users to waive ownership (but not liability) for all content submitted to the website. As Everipedia's parent company holds exclusive rights to all content submitted to their website, they may modify and resell it at their discretion.[6]
Growth
In November 2015, Everipedia had 10,000 pages[7], and by March 2016 had 200,000 published pages, according to Moghadam.[3] It receives about 100,000 page views per month.[8] Based on Everipedia's user statistics as of 16 September 2016, 5,338,718 pages of site content have been imported from Wikipedia by user "wikibot".[9]
