Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

• Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
• Offer a correction if possible.
• References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
• Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 18:34 on 3 January 2025) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
• Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
• Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
• No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
• Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
• Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Errors in In the news

China and Taiwan

I think that there is an error in the "in the news" module of the current Main Page on English Wikipedia which assumes that "China" and "Taiwan" were equal in terms of their status, which is wrong because Taiwan has not been widely considered as an independent sovereign state but should theoretically be part of China. I recommend "Mainland China" and "Taiwan". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 223.104.249.63 (talk) 18:25, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

China and Taiwan are the common names of the countries and the article names; Mainland China is nowhere near as widely understood, and unnecessary here.--JohnBlackburne^words_deeds 19:58, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Checkers speech

[...] refuting accusations of improprieties with contributions to his campaign.

This wording seems wrong to me. It implies that his campaign at the time, for the vice presidency, was its own organization when in fact there was one organization (I assume) supporting the Eisenhower-Nixon ticket. The second paragraph of the article says the controversial contributions were made after his election to the senate two years prior to pay for the expenses of political activities since that election (I paraphrase the latter part), so they were not made to finance a specific campaign for office. How about rewriting the blurb to state, "...defending his acceptance of earlier political contributions"? --71.183.132.221 (talk) 05:08, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

• tomorrow, picture: the caption has a linebreak in a rather unfortunate place, at least for me: it is putting the '1' on its own line below everything else. A simple fix would be to replace the caption with "HMA No. 1 wreckage", which is shorter so should fit, and if it does not in some cases should at least line break sensibly.--JohnBlackburne^words_deeds 20:01, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

"...military advisers to US President Harry S. Truman," -- I thought Truman had no period after his middle initial S, because it was not an initial, but the full name. So why do we have "S."? T-bonham (talk) 05:06, 24 September 2016 (UTC)
