Thanks for the welcome.

Thaks for saying hello! I'm quickly learning all the ins and outs of contributing, mostly making minor edits here and there as I come across them. Good to hear a greeting. I actually got stumped recently: I created a page for an old video game, Rome: Pathway to Power. I've inserted an infobox, except that it doesn't look particularly infoboxy. I've checked and double-checked everything, and it all looks good to me, and yet: no infobox. Any idea why? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Porlob (talkcontribs)

Deleted request for Joep_Gommers

Dear Sir, I see that you objected to my page about my friend Joep Gommers (Joep_Gommers), could you please post your comments so i can revise my story about him. It's difficult to say how to improve if you don't mention it. He really is of great value for his community and especially Hackerdom, thanks for the reaction. Reply to me at my talk page is fine. Toronto Star

I am the principal author of the Toronto Star article. After many weeks, we finally reached a consensus -- only to be confronted with some reversions that undid much of the hard work. I see you have reverted (re-reverted?) some of these. I have completed the task, with a few more minor edits. Thanks for any assiatance you can offer in seeing this through.

RfA thanks

Frank Coldheart

Hello Yanksox,

I have noticed that you have deleted the article I have just posted on Frank Coldheart. I believe this young author will be soon recognised by most people as I have personally read his book and can confirm that there is substance. My name is Paul Richardson and I was Director of the Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies at Oxford Brookes University in the UK until 2004. I understand that the article does not meet your criteria, however, I believe that it makes some sense to inform people about authors that are not necessarily big at the time of entering Wikipedia.

I would appreciate your view.

Regards

Frank Coldheart

I accept that this author is still unknown to the big audience, however, I don't understand why you classify the article as nonsensical. I can rephrase the article if you can give me more specific guidance as to the criteria required.

Thanks

What is your definition of nonsense? I am a bit baffled, and it is not about getting Frank known but about spreading information that is valuable for Wikipedian readers

August Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.
Signed...
Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

Hi, since you locked up the article, do you think you can pay a trip to the talk page and help mediate with us. Francistyers has done a good job and helped us alot. He essentially said it was alrite to use the Sumgait Tragedy book which the article hinges itself on so long as it doesn't give undue weight upon it. However, the lack of a 3rd party makes the arguments useless since both of us are locked in one position. I listed some argument points on the bottom half of the article which give enough credence to use the witnesses' book since most of the information cited in the book is backed up by a plethora of evidence (although much of that evidence is not enough to explain things in depth which, hence, require the use of the book which gives a much more detailed account of the event) that even other "neutral" books use as sources.--MarshallBagramyan 06:33, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was hoping perhaps you can personally participate on the article's talk page or perhaps advise a fellow friend who can take part in the discussions as a 3rd party. Thank you.--MarshallBagramyan 17:49, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry Yankee for continously posting this, but your participation as 3rd party will be highly valued in the article and I hope you can take some time to help mediate between us since virtually no progress is being made and talks are being stalled due to the fact that the opposing side is presenting confusing, contradictory, and incoherent claims against the article's content. Thank you. --MarshallBagramyan 17:50, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: message concerning IP Vandalism on WP:AN

Thanks for that help, Yanksox, concerning the 2 IP's I posted there. The reason I skipped t1 t2 and t3, was that the stuff was quite offensive, my opinion only, and it was obvious they were out to vandalise. Hey, just curious about your edit to this page. I recommended it for speedy deletion as being a bio page which didn't claim notability. Graeme Park

Hi, I am an official representative from Graeme Park and authorized to use the text from our website on wikipedia.

That's wonderful, but means absolutely nothing unless you can prove it. Unfortunately we can't just "accept" what you say, as copyright law does not allow it. --Lord Deskana (talk) 15:45, 19 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am from the wesite, you can check my email addy and see that I am associated with the site and the state of pennsylvania, who owns the site, but forget it. Just trying to help spread some information on an interesting guy the world might not know about, but I'm not about to rewrite the whole thing for the sake of making it different when it has already been written and approved by our board.

How exactly do I "prove it" - my email which I provided when I signed up is a legitimate email. What more do you want.

A notice on the website that says the content on it is allowed to be used under GFDL. Anything short of that would really be insufficient, as we can't really risk being sued. --Lord Deskana (talk) 15:55, 19 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of image

Dear Yanksox,

I hope you are willing to help me, or at least give some advice. Some time ago you semi-protected File:Hassan Nasrallah Hezbollah.jpeg, since an anon user tagged it as unlicensed and refused to raise his concerns on the talk page. I assume you saw the talk page, where several editors agreed that the image was within the fair use license. Some days later I realized suddenly that the image had been deleted. No concerns had been raised at its talk page. As you can see at User_talk:Angr#Unilateral_deletion_of_licensed_image I contacted the administrator who deleted the pic. He found personally that the pic didnt meet the fair use criteria (even though they specificaly state that billboards are coveres), and he didnt bother to raise the concerns on the talk page or list the picture for deletion so it could be contested. Honestly, such unilateral deletions are not fruitful for creating an atmosphere of willingness to contribute. So I would like to get you advice on what to do. Should I just stop uploading pics, since any administrator unilaterally can delete it without reasoining? Or can the the pic be restored, and thus be subject for it salleged copyvio? Sorry to sraw you into this. But I sincerely hope that you understand the frustrations such unilateral actions create, and help me solve the issue. Thank you. re: Copyrights

Heck yeah dude! I like it quite a bit actually. So... thanks for helping me get the tools to do it! Do you know a good place to read about how to do image copyrights? --Aguerriero (talk) 14:38, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Basically, if someone uploads a copyrighted image and doesn't provide a fair use rationale, it can be deleted, right? --Aguerriero (talk) 14:58, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Closing Move Requests

I see you're getting around to some of the move requests. However, I would request that when you close a move request you remove the {{move}} template from the relevant talk pages. It would also be a good idea to somehow close off the survey section. That can easily be done by doing something like...

{{subst:polltop}} '''result''', with explanatory reason if necessary. ~~~~

==Move Request==

===Survey===
blah blah

===Discussion===
blah blah

{{subst:pollbottom}}

That puts a wonderful green box around the section (similar to the grey box around the above code). Sorry if you actually knew this already; carry on with clearing the backlog. -- tariqabjotu 15:24, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I came here to advise you to do the same thing. Otherwise, people keep adding their opinion to the survey even though the matter is done with. I also usually remove extraneous stuff from it before I close it, e.g. the instructions about how to make a vote under "Survey" and the "Discussion" section if it is empty. If the only comment is by one person, I usually forgo the poll templates and just reduce the section it to his single comment with a "Done. --Centrx sig" from me, so it doesn't look like a poll anymore anyway. But that's just me. —Centrxtalk • 16:18, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The original barnstar

Thanks very much indeed for this, which I certainly consider an honour (or maybe an honor) coming from such a commendable editor and admin. You obviously noticed that I didn't have the original one! If you have any time (unlikely) you might like to check out Talk:Michael_Ignatieff, where I have trying out a method of dispute resolution to stop endless rambling conversations by getting editors to focus on the precise points in question, each with a separate debate, i.e. a structured approach. I think talk page hell is a major problem which needs addressing. Tyrenius 20:40, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Yanksox. I redirected back your page move to this page. There is an unresolved debate between Striver and I which has not been resolved. It's about how to transliterate Arabic properly, and Striver has basically made up his own version, where a plethora of standards exist, and an MOS exists for wikipedia on the subject. There have been few contributors to the debate and now it's at a standstill, with no real conclusion. I restored the page title to a version without errors.

See Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (Islam-related articles)/names and Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (Arabic) for more of the debate. Cuñado - Talk 00:59, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Emmalina AFD closing comments

Having voted in the Emmalina AFD, I read with interest your comments in regards to the "Notability vs Privacy" debate. I was just wondering if you would have any idea where in Wikipedia one could go and discuss this issue? From what I've seen there are several policies and articles that engage in this discussion but I was wondering if there was one centralized talk page or such, rather than a number of fragmented areas. I'm interested to read what others think about this debate, so if you do know of such a place, it would be greatly appreciated. Regards, --Auger Martel 09:56, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yanksox, I posted my idea for a civil discussion on Talk:Snakes on a Plane yesterday, and you're the only one who responded, so I think we should take charge and separate these people until they can calm down. I think that Guerrillafilm in particular needs to be blocked, if you look at his contributions in the last day, you can see that he is dominating the discussion so much that no one can get anything done. There may be some other users who need a time-out as well, but let's see what things are like without Guerrillafilm first. I have never asked an admin to block another user before. Usually, I stay out of drama like this, but the fact that the page isn't anywhere close to being unblocked is starting to bug me. Let me know what you think on my talk page. Thanks. If you're willing to give these editors a second chance, so am I. I humbly withdraw my request. Lovelac7 03:19, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Huh?

Diff? - CrazyRussian talk/email 04:05, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

LOL. I had the French account since 2005. I just never bothered to link it. I figured YurikBot will hook me up - but he didn't. OT, now that Yurik is standing for a ru:RfA, he will w00tulate all the protected interwikis and be master of all with his 1,000,000 edits. - CrazyRussian talk/email 04:10, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Roasting Users

Are you the second person to create fake pages in user space for a users RfA? Cause I did it to show if CrazyComputer is good with AfDs. I think it's the best way to show if a user knows their stuff or not, wouldn't you agree? :) --Andeh 18:32, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh dear I hope I haven't started anything!--Andeh 18:34, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, where do I add my name?--Andeh 19:34, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That'd interfere with the RfA, shall I create a seperate page?--Andeh 19:37, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There.--Andeh 19:45, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to add some basic rules such as civility, please do.--Andeh 19:50, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Would you please clear Paul Summers so I could put a different one there? Thanks. - CrazyRussian talk/email 19:59, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Again

I've blocked an IP, which could be your bot logged out[3]. If this is your bot, please remedy the situation. Thanks, Yanksox 23:34, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,
No, it is not my bot.
But is seems to have the same bug I had removing mk: links.

Relax

Check your email; I posted here first because I wanted to give you a nice, soothing picture, too. :) I thought it'd remind you of Midsummer Night's Dream and Quincy Market. Srose (talk) 16:01, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Listen to the message on your home phone. I have a question, too... How do I create another archive for Werdnabot to put things into? Is it as simple as creating /archive2, and the bot will figure it out? Srose (talk) 22:33, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ahem

So, when you gonna join my WikiProject? :) --Aguerriero (talk) 19:48, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So what was the reason for deleting Pierre Fitch? "CSD A7" means nothing to me. Augurr 20:50, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It could be Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion, General, Paragraph 7: "Author requests deletion" (where a slip of the finger on the keyboard is misconstrued as making this request) or Articles, Paragraph 7: "Unremarkable people or groups/vanity pages." Either way this has a bad stink to it. Like the article you started on Pierre Fitch, no one has made any edits to my article on Lynne Stopkewich, but no one has tried to speedy delete it either. Cromulent Kwyjibo 22:30, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's A7, no assertion of notability. Being a porn star doesn't merit an article, unless they are a particularly significant porn star, and the writing indicates this is a fairly low key porn star, hence not notable. The Lynne Stopkewich article has a small indication of notability that she is particularly known for something, though this may not be enough in itself to keep the article. Be good, buddy

My first year at university

Lots of basketball, parties, sneaking into clubs, and a late-semester road trip where we skipped a heap of classes. We jumped into the Rideau Canal for frosh week. I'm happy to hear that you're more serious about academics than me :) Cheers -- Samir धर्म 00:03, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Saw your Comment

Saw your comment! lol I have been having fuin debating it (not joking). I think it will be kept but if it does get deleted not going to let it go with out one hell of a fight! Æon Insanity Now!EA! 04:38, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

CRAP! why the hell didn't I think of WP:BEANS lol Æon Insanity Now!EA! 05:05, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Check your e-mail, please

It's way too hard to get you on here, even when you're editing less. :P I guess you're among the favorite new admins (not at all surprising, of course). Anyway, check l'email. Grazie! Srose (talk) 15:20, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

huh

Yank the Defcon Temp link is broken. Æon Insanity Now!EA! 15:38, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cool I take it your heading them off at he pass on that one. (Good job BTW) Æon Insanity Now!EA! 15:42, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok Cool all the templates are going to have to be edited and moved. Æon Insanity Now!EA! 15:45, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I can try but I'm not very good at these type of templates. Herostatus would be the biggest help. Æon Insanity Now!EA! 15:47, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I figured it out! Going to fix the trascludes we may want to leave some kind of note saying not to have a bot change this (because of the various styles and such) Æon Insanity Now!EA! 15:55, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't use AWB.....so it might be easier if you do. Æon Insanity Now!EA! 15:57, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Same here other than replace the one in my userspace. Drini may have stired up trouble inadvertanty (He is taking a lot of flak for deleting the CVU.) Æon Insanity Now!EA! 16:05, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA

Thanks!

Thank you very much for your comments on my recent Request for Adminship. The request was ultimately unsuccessful - which wasn't entirely surprising - and so I'll be taking special care to address the concerns that were raised before running again.

I'm anxious to improve my work generally, even if it doesn't result in a future adminship, and so please don't hesitate to leave any further feedback or comments at my talk page. You're one of those users that I really look up to at Wikipedia, so I'd be very grateful for any future advice you may have for me.

Thanks again!

Sure, I'd love to have those CSD examples for future reference. Thanks again for providing them in the future. :) Daveydweeb (chat/patch) 21:58, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to the hospital

I don't feel very good (at all)... Hopefully I'll be home by this afternoon...please read your email... Srose (talk) 11:45, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm back home... I'm kind of confused as to why you sounded so worried in your e-mail... I reaaally wish I could just call you at random times in the day, like before, to explain. Anyway, check your e-mail and/or call me and GOOD LUCK! =) Srose (talk) 17:20, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

undelete

Can you please undelete my User talk:ADNghiem501/sandbox? It was just a test page, not an owner request for this deletion. I need to preserve the page history, however. If after you undelete the page, remove the speedy deletion tag from it. -- ADNghiem501 02:13, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hope you don't mind. I did it for you. Study hard =). alphaChimp laudare 02:33, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Semiprotect Mark Levin. IP has been annoying us and adding a link a half-dozen times which there is consensus to exclude. - CrazyRussian talk/email 12:38, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
