Jelena Karleusa, also known as JK, is one of the most prominent and exciting pop/folk singers in Serbia.

Jelena is the daughter of a business leader Divna Karleuša and a policeman from Belgrade Dragan Karleuša. She was born in Belgrade in 1978 and started her singing career in the mid 1990s. Soon she caught the public's eye with her busty-blond sexappeal and crass attitude. She backed up her image with a string of hits, most of which were written by the famous Yugoslav songwriter Marina Tucakovic. So far, Jelena has released eight studio albums, most of which have become great successes in Serbia, Montenegro and neighbouring countries such as Macedonia and Bosnia. Her first album, Ogledalce (1995), was released when Karleuša was only 16 years of age, and it sold over 100,000 copies. Her following album, Ženite Se Momci (1996) sold just as much. Her third album Veštice, Vile (1997), which showed a more experimental Karleuša, was released by ZAM Records and includes hits such as Oko crno, Cicija and the outstanding rock ballad 'Ko ovu dramu rezira'. Some of her most successful hits are the latest "Slatka Mala" from the album Magija, as well as "Ludača", "Manijak", "Gili Gili", "Beznadežan Slučaj" and covers of the Turkish singer Tarkan's international hits like Şımarık ("Žene Vole Dijamante") and Şıkıdım ("Jelena, Jelena"), but also "Samo Za Tvoje Oči" and the club thumper "Još Te Volim". Jelena also has a reputation for being the most scandalous celebrity in the Balkans, often enmashing herself in fights with other public figures and love affaires with some prominent men in the country. One such man was Bojan Karić, whom she married and divorced shortly after four months of hyper-speculation and media exposure that surrounded the pair. Jelena is currently planning a concert at Belgrade's prestigious Arena hall, and there are also plans for an album to be released later this year.
