Parameter descriptions

Top portion of infobox:

  • name - The station name
  • type - The type of station. Values are:
    • "NYCS" (default) - a New York City Subway station
    • "complex" - a New York City Subway station complex (a station with transfers to other lines on non-adjacent platforms). This is the setting for the first infobox on a page with multiple NYCS infoboxes; subsequent infoboxes describe individual platforms.
    • "SIR" - a Staten Island Railway station
  • type2 - Status of the type of station (e.g. Closed, Former, Future, Planned). Must be uppercase, as this goes before the "type" parameter.
  • image - An image of the station
  • image_size - Specifies an image size in pixels other than the default (300 pixels)
  • image_caption - A caption for the image

Station statistics:

  • address - Street address/intersection of the station
  • borough - Borough that the station is located in
  • locale - Locale/neighborhood of the station
  • map_type, lat_deg, lat_min, lat_sec, lat_dir, lon_deg, lon_min, lon_sec, lon_dir – The coordinates, when placed here, add the station's location on a map of New York City Subway lines, as well as add geographical coordinates of the station using {{coord}}. Replaces coordinates in New York City Subway articles.
  • coordinates – Geographical coordinates of the station using {{coord}}. Used in all articles that are not New York City Subway articles.
  • line - Line(s) that serve the station
  • service - New York City Subway only: The service at the station: see Wikipedia:WikiProject New York City Public Transportation/New York City Subway/Lines
  • service_custom - Services for non-New York City Subway lines and closed stations
  • transfer - Transfer(s) to other lines. Use {{NYCS transfer}} with HTML breaks for additional stations.
  • connection - Connecting services (e.g. bus, rail) that serve the station
  • structure - Type of station structure (e.g. underground, at-grade, or elevated)
  • depth - The depth of the primary platform below ground level
  • levels - Number of levels of platforms at the station (use only if more than one exists; mezzanine/entrance levels are not included)
  • platforms - Information about the platform(s) at the station
  • tracks - Number of tracks at the station

Other information:

  • open_date - Date station originally opened and dates of subsequent reopenings (if applicable)
  • close_date - Date(s) station closed, either temporarily or permanently
  • rebuilt - Date(s) station last received a rebuild/rehabilitation
  • accessible - If any text is placed here a universal symbol for disabled accessibility (Disabled access) will appear.
  • acc_note - Notes about accessibility of the station, such as inaccessibility elsewhere
  • cross_platform - If any text is placed here, the note "Cross-platform wheelchair access available" will appear.
  • former and other_name - Use former for previous station name(s) (give dates when possible); use other_name for alternative names currently in use
  • other_exits - Other station entrances/exits (note whether they are entrance or exit only)
  • wifi – If the station has Wi-Fi, a cellular network, or wireless
  • wifi_custom_ref – The number of the reference name for the "wifi" parameter

Traffic:

  • passengers – Number of passengers using the station
  • pass_year – Year passenger information was gathered
  • pass_percent – Percentage increase or decrease in usage

Station succession:

  • next_north and next_south - The next station(s) north or south (by railroad direction) of this station. Use {{NYCS next}} with HTML breaks for multiple stations.
  • next_north_acc and next_south_acc - The next station(s) north or south of this station that are wheelchair accessible. Stations in which there is an accessible cross-platform transfer should also be included. Use {{NYCS next}} with HTML breaks for multiple stations.

Station service legend: Provides a section for explaining the service symbols used in the infobox.

  • nolegend - removes station service legend from infobox for closed stations and non-NYCS stations
  • legend - overrides default station service legend

Parameters to be deprecated

The following parameters that are currently used in station articles should be replaced. (The reason for this is to eventually reduce the size of this template for better performance and readability.)

  • caption (replaced with image_caption)
  • coords (use either map_type, lat_deg, lat_min, lat_sec, lat_dir, lon_deg, lon_min, lon_sec, lon_dir in New York City Subway articles, or coordinates in all other articles)

The following parameters have been removed:

  • SIR and station_complex (replace with 'type=SIR' or 'type=complex')
  • open_year and open_month_day (use open_date)
  • line_2 (use line with HTML breaks)
  • Transfer parameters (use transfer with HTML breaks):
    • transfer_station, transfer_line, transfer_service, transfer_station_acc, transfer_service_note, and transfer_custom
    • the above appended by _2 or _3
  • Next station parameters (use next_north or next_south with HTML breaks):
    • north_station, north_line, north_service, north_skip, north_local_station, north_local_service, north_express_station, north_express_service
    • the above with north replaced by south
    • north_custom_station, north_custom_station_2, north_custom_station_3
    • the above with north replaced by south
  • font_color, bg_color, font_color_2, bg_color_2 - Deprecated

Parameters not in use yet

The following parameters are not in use yet:

  • layout – Shows the station layout of the station. Not in use as all stations already have inline layouts.

Examples

The following examples are of infoboxes from the Roosevelt Avenue/74th Street (New York City Subway) station. The second and third infoboxes, in particular, are for the Jackson Heights – Roosevelt Avenue (IND Queens Boulevard Line) component of the station.

The second example provides information about the IND Queens Boulevard Line level. The infobox for the IRT Flushing Line level has a similar format.

Example 3 (not in use)

This third example is the same as the second example, except that it has a station layout and location map.

Note: Location map does not work within Staten Island. Also note that the articles on which these infoboxes are transcluded all already have more complex station layouts with explanatory text.

Microformat

The HTML markup produced by this template includes an hCard microformat, which makes the place-name and location parsable by computers, either acting automatically to catalogue articles across Wikipedia, or via a browser tool operated by a person, to (for example) add the subject to an address book. Within the hCard is a Geo microformat, which additionally makes the coordinates (latitude & longitude) parsable, so that they can be, say, looked up on a map, or downloaded to a GPS unit. For more information about the use of microformats on Wikipedia, please see the microformat project.

Sub-templates

If the place or venue has "established", "founded", "opened" or similar dates, use {{start date}} for the earliest of those dates unless the date is before 1583 CE.

If it has a URL, use {{URL}}.

Please do not remove instances of these sub-templates.

Classes

hCard uses HTML classes including:

  • adr
  • agent
  • category
  • county-name
  • extended-address
  • fn
  • label
  • locality
  • nickname
  • note
  • org
  • region
  • street-address
  • uid
  • url
  • vcard

Geo is produced by calling {{coord}}, and uses HTML classes:

  • geo
  • latitude
  • longitude

Please do not rename or remove these classes nor collapse nested elements which use them.

Precision

When giving coordinates, please use an appropriate level of precision. Do not use {{coord}}'s |name= parameter.
