Choolaimedu is a large residential commercial locality in Chennai, India. It borders Kodambakkam, Vadapalani, M.M.D.A.Colony, Aminjikarai, Mahalingapuram and Nungambakkam. Previously a part of Puliyur village, Choolaimedu has now become a hub for commercial interests and connects two of the busiest routes in Chennai, namely Arcot Road and Nelson Manickam Road.

Nungambakkam railway station lies closest to Choolaimedu. Choolaimedu is closer to prestigious institutions like Loyola College,, Meenakshi Engineering College & Panimalar Polytechnic. Choolaimedu is undergoing expansive development with new super malls from AMPAA Constructions. Owing to its proximity to transport facilities and the commercial hub of Chennai - T. Nagar, there are a number of mansions and hostels providing paid accommodation to employed men and women in the area. Nelson Manickam Road bus line connects buses from the eastern suburbs of Chennai to the south and the west of Chennai. The Nungambakkam railway station is a bustling transit point with heavy commuter traffic. With the development of the city, road traffic has gradually become a menace for pedestrians who commute in thousands every day. Eateries and Supermarkets of good quality are sprouting up to meet consumer demands that include Spencer's Daily on Nelson Manickam Road, Heritage Fresh on Choolaimedu High Road (near Zackariah Colony), Reliance at Abdulla street and Haniffa Departmental Store, MORE super market on Choolaimedu High Road.

There are numerous temples, churches & mosques for the residents in the locality, notable temples being Gangai Amman Kovil & Shiva Vishnu Kovil, Kodambakkam mosque, Choolaimedu mosque on Choolaimedu High Road.

The Nungambakkam Railway subway was one of the few 4 lane railway subways in Chennai at the time it was opened in the early 80's.

The sprawling & busy Chitra Avenue residential & commercial complexes near Nungambakkam railway station, was once a silent staff quarters of the Loyola College.

Mini bus services is also available in choolaimedu through vanniar street & choolaimedu High Road. The services were called M5 and M6 originating from a vacant plot opposite Sowrashtra Nagar 1st Street, which now houses a Chennai corporation community center. Renowned Child Counselor Lata Lakshminarayanan resides in Choolaimedu. She is also honoured by our Hon.Ex.President Dr.A.P.J Abdul Kalam. Lata Lakshminarayanan is also helping poor and needy children by empowering them the value of education. She works for a noble cause

There are 2 mosques in Choolaimedu High Road, one in Basha street and the other one in Sowrashtra Nagar 9th street.

There are 3 big churches in Choolaimedu High Road, which are very near to the railway station.

Notable companies like HDFC & HCL have their BPO centers here.

Axis Bank has started its new branch in Choolaimedu on 21 April 2016.
