Biography
Henry Gourarier was born in 1928 in Berlin. His father is a native of Lodz in Poland employed by Siemens & Halske plants. His mother was born in Przemysl, Poland.Henri Gourarier parents open a men clothing store in Berlin. Henri Gourarier was deported to the concentration camp in September 1943, then Auschwitz the same year. His mother and uncle Oscar were gassed on arrival at Auschwitz November 6, 1943.Henri Gourarier is enclosed in the hometown of his mother in Przemysl in Poland, turned into ghetto. He was finally deported with his family in 1943 at Auschwitz-Birkinau camp with the number 161397 (his father had 161396) tattooed on his arm and then to Buchenwald and finally to the plant Spaichingen (Baden-Württemberg). Exausted, he manages to escape during a forced march in 1945.
He was repatriated to Nice on 14 July 1945. In 1947, he reached Israel by sea in a small boat like his future wife: Michelle Gourarier born February 20, 1928, passing the Exodus ship which thousands of Jewish survivors of camps vainly trying to reach the Palestine. Henry and Michelle share a community life at Kibbutz Neve Ilan to the 2nd anniversary of Zeev born in 1953.
In 1955, he returned to France and practicing the engineering profession and to his retirement, he was active in organizations defending the human rights. He is a member of the International Federation of Human Rights FIDH.
Henry is Zeev Gourarier father (born 1953 in Jerusalem) Scientific Director and civilizations of the museum's collections of Europe and Méditerranée and Laurent Gourarier (born April 28, 1961 in Paris), addiction specialist psychiatrist in Paris.
Henry GOURARIER is knighted in the French Order of Merit 16 December 1990 and 12 May 1997 officer, he was named Chevalier of the Legion of Honor April 15, 2016.
