BlueArc Corporation, founded in 1998, provides network storage devices for the NAS and SAN markets, built on a hardware-based architecture, using Altera FPGAs. The company's systems are most well-known for high performance network storage, and have set the world record for single and dual-node Network File System performance, as measured one of the most-common third party benchmarks, SPECsfs hosted by SPEC.org.

Headquarted in San Jose, California, BlueArc's systems include the Titan 2100 and Titan 2200, the company's fourth-generation systems. The Titan 2000 systems, announced in February, 2006, doubled performance, scalability and throughput over the company's third-generation systems, and first-generation Titan offerings, which were introduced to the market in January, 2004. Previous offerings included the Si8000 family, introduced in 2002, and the Si7500, the company's first servers, which were introduced in March of 2001.

The company's offerings have been most widely adopted by customers in the entertainment, Internet services and life sciences markets, with additional sales in energy and gas, electronic discovery, technology and manufacturing and the federal government. The company's first announced customers, in July 2001, were Altera Corporation, Extreme Networks and Juniper Networks. Recent news coverage and company announcements report more than 170 customers, and in excess of 500 systems deployed. The company, through five rounds of funding, has raised in excess of $200 million from venture capital firms, the most recent of which included a $29 million round in June of 2006.

Additional customer announcements have included Accelrys Pharmaceuticals, Chevron Corporation, LLNL, NBC Sports, Turner Studios, WebTrends, and Zhone Technologies. Additional industry competitors include Network Appliance and EMC Corporation.
