Biete Medhane Alem is an underground monolith church carved into rock. It is located in Lalibela, Ethiopia. It was created during the Kingdom of Axum.[1][2] It is part of UNESCO World Heritage Site at Lalibela.[3] Biete Medhane Alem (House of the Saviour of the World) is home to the Lalibela Cross and believed to be the largest monolithic church in the world, probably a copy of St Mary of Zion in Aksum.[4]
