On 19 December 2016 at about 20:00 local time, a truck ran through a Christmas market at Breitscheidplatz in Berlin, Germany, killing at least nine people and injuring at least 50 more.[3][4] The truck drove 50–80 metres, crossing the walkway and destroying booths.[5] Local police stated that the vehicle came from the direction of Budapester Strasse before finally coming to rest in front of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church.[6] The driver was reported to have fled towards the Berlin Zoological Garden.[5] The suspect, believed to be the driver, has been taken into custody.[7][8] Police said a second occupant of the truck died at the scene.[9]
Vehicle
The vehicle involved was a black Scania semi-trailer truck. [8] The truck bore Polish number plates and belonged to a Polish delivery company Usługi Transportowe Ariel Żurawski, based in Gryfino[10]. The owner of the truck interviewed by Polish TV said that the original driver was his cousin. The company last contacted the driver between 15:00 and 16:00, when the driver reported that he had got to the destination company in Berlin too late, and he had to wait there to unload his truck the following morning.[11]http://ekstrabladet.dk/112/koerte-lastbil-ind-i-folkemaengde-en-gerningsmand-anholdt-og-en-doed/6459633</ref>
