Modified Miller Code: US patent 4227184

This is a modification to make it DC-free, at the expense of a longer run length. As per normal MFM, but any time you have an even number of ones between adjacent zeros, the last 1 is suppressed (sent as zero). It's still identifiable as a 1 by the lack of surrounding clock bits. This allows a maximum run length of 5. (If you want better, the zero modulation code has tighter coding bounds.)

MFM

It looks like two different industries (storage and communications) have different names for the same coding. I also seem to recall that there are two patents for the same code. MFM gets about 3 times the Google hits (including Scholarly hits) as "Delay endoding" (no Scholarly hits). That's one way to decide the surviving title. Another way is the name first used should be the article's title with a redirect for the retired name. The Miller code patent from the storage industry is 1960 but it doesn't use the either phrase.
