Srijan (Hindi: सृजन meaning Creation) is the annual cultural festival of the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad. It is a three- to four-day-long event held in the month of March every year. It draws a footfall of more than 2,000 students from more than 100 institutes across the country.[1]

History

Formerly known as "Saturnalia", the fest started in 1977, and is now held annually. The name Resonanze cropped up in the year 2003 which was exclusively a cultural fest. In the year 2004 festival was renamed to Srijan.[citation needed]

Srijan 2016

Srijan 2016 was cancelled due to unavoidable circumstances and the budget allocation for it was utilised for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.[citation needed]

Srijan 2015

Srijan 2015 included a performance from Swedish Death Metal band Mindshift on the first day and performances by Indian celebrity singers Jonita Gandhi and Salim - Sulaiman on the second. [2]

Srijan 2014 was held from 28 March, 2014 to 30 March, 2014.[citation needed]

Srijan 2013

Srijan 2013 was held from March 14–16, 2013. The theme of Srijan '13 was Wasseypur. The theme was portrayed aptly with some famous punchlines from the Gangs of Wasseypur series being displayed throughout the campus. The Star Nites included DJ Shireen on the first night, the band Joshish the next day, which performed in IIT Bombay during Mood Indigo, and on the third day, Bollywood singer KK.[citation needed]

Srijan 2011 was held during March 3–5, 2011. "Incredible India" theme was portrayed and festival with fusion bands performing. Concerts by Javed Ali and Hard Kaur in "Star Nites". Performances by Motherjane and a talk by Chetan Bhagat organised by management department of IIT(ISM), Dhanbad were also held.[citation needed]

Srijan 2010

Srijan 2010 was held during 25–27 February 2010. Srijan "Colours of Innovation" included performances by Isha Sharvani and Daksha Sheth Dance Company. Simon Webbe (Lead vocalist Blue), Jal (band), Juggy D and DJ Harshit Shah performed in Encore (Star Night) and Pro Show. Rannvijay Singh hosted the major part of the fest including Mr. & Mrs. Srijan.[3]

Events

The festival encompasses cultural, technical, management as well as gaming events.

Colors and Paints

This section of Srijan encompasses a variety of creative events like face painting, t-shirt painting, wall painting, and graffiti. Other creative events like paper folding, designing, poster making, and such, are too the forte of Colors and Paints.

Gaming

This section of Srijan includes multiplayer gaming events such as FIFA (video game series), Need For Speed, and Age of Empires.

Next Edition

The fest would be organised from 24 March, 2017 to 26 March, 2017.[4]
