Nominator: Domesticenginerd (nee Armoreno10)

I will begin this review shortly. – Quadell (talk) 13:06, 4 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to have to quickfail this nomination due to the following significant issues:

  • The article has problems with plagiarism, even if it was unintentional. For instance, this sentence – "The Delta Upsilon Global Service Initiative (GSI) offers members a unique opportunity to engage in direct service in developing nations and United States while uniting their actions with the principles of the Fraternity." – is copied directly from the source. There may be other cases of this in the article as well. This is a serious problem; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism.
  • A few parts of the article reads like an advertisement, or like a brochure from the fraternity. Phrases like "the Fraternity is able to touch the lives of thousands of people" are not encyclopedic.
  • Nearly all the information in the article comes from DU itself, either from The Cornerstone, from the official website, or from works published by Delta Upsilon Fraternity. See point #5 at Wikipedia:ABOUTSELF.

I have added note at the top of this article about these concerns. If all these issues are resolved, feel free to renominate. – Quadell (talk) 14:09, 4 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

this article

This article is a massive, rambling mess. Since the only source for anything here is the DU website we might as well just throw a link directly up to it and do away with the 90,000 words of text. Anyway, I'm going to try to fix it over the next few days. DocumentError (talk) 08:47, 14 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

OKAY, my edits are now done. This is what was changed (here is the previous version, for comparison: [1]:
  • I uploaded nine new images and added them to the article, and found a couple relevant images on the Commons that were added (I think we had 2 images previously). I also added a sound file of HDU. I would like to add the Delta Upsilon Ode but there is no clear copyright on it.
  • I created and added an expansion animated gif map.
  • I eviscerated the entire history section which was primarily sourced to the fraternity's history and the most recent book, both of which are not only non-RS but basically seem to be the transcripts of a pep rally versus actual history (For example, the dissolution of the 1956 Undergraduate Convention was a major historical episode; the fraternity's various official histories skip right over it. Also, the 1879 amendment of the anti-secrecy statutes has been critically evaluated by many outside observers but DU has consistently and pathologically refused to acknowledge that. Further, the spate of chapter closings in the '90s is totally omitted from the fraternity's history of itself.) Insofar as possible the history section is now sourced to non-DU sources and, in some parts, the 1935 book.
  • I added a section on "secessionist chapters." I was concerned this might be WP:UNDUE, however, after looking at the similar (but differently named) section in Phi Delta Theta, and considering the importance of the D-Psi and DU Club splits, I included it.
  • I eliminated a large body of text that is simply not appropriate for an encyclopedia entry and would be more appropriate for the DU website (Do we need a 500-word description of the governing structure, or the entire verbatim text of the oath of initiation?).
  • I took the Four Founding Principles out of the infobox as it's just not the kind of thing you put in the infobox. I did add in a mascot line, though.
  • I toned down some of the language that sounds like it was lifted from a rush brochure.
  • I added an "In Popular Culture" section.
C'est tout. DOCUMENTERROR 12:30, 22 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I will review this. EricEnfermero (Talk) 06:31, 11 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Initial checks

Checklinks and Dablinks in the GA Toolbox show some issues with disambiguation links and dead external links.

Lead section

Much of the lead simply lists notable members, so it doesn't represent a good summary of the article per WP:LEAD.

Infobox

I'm a little unclear on the significance of the image of the duck. I realize that the duck is the fraternity's mascot, but I don't think that really requires an image unless this specific image is significant to the organization in some way.

To be continued... EricEnfermero (Talk) 06:46, 11 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I am closing this as unsuccessful given that the feedback has gone unaddressed. The nominator is inactive and has indicated that he cannot resume editing. EricEnfermero (Talk) 04:38, 28 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
