Trey Edward Shults is an American film director, producer, writer, and actor. He made his film debut in the short film Mother and Son (2010), and is best known for directing Krisha (2015).
Career
In 2010, Shults made his directorial debut in the short film, he also wrote, edited, and produced called Mother and Son, it starred Krisha Fairchild and Lucas Quintana.[1] In 2011 and 2012, Shults has served as the film loader, post-production intern, intern, on three of Terrence Malick's films, Weightless, Voyage of Time, and The Tree of Life.[2][3][4] At the time, Shults was in school for business management but dropped out to work on the films, and study films himself.[5] In 2011, Shults wrote, directed, produced, and edited, a short film starring Krisha Fairchild, titled Two to One.[6]
In 2014, Shults directed, wrote, and produced, acted, and edited Krisha, a short film starring Krisha Fairchild, Robyn Fairchild, and Billie Fairchild, all of whom Shults is related to.[7] The following year, he directed, wrote, and acted in a feature-length adaptation of the same name, which premiered at South by Southwest in March 2015, winning the Grand Jury Award.[8] The film is based up on a real-life incident, about Shults' cousin who relapsed at a family reunion.[9] It was acquired by A24, who also acquired Shult's upcoming film, It Comes at Night, a psychological horror film[10] starring Joel Edgerton.[11][12]
In March 2015, Shults signed with WME.[13] Shults also served as the camera PA on the 2016 film Midnight Special.[14]
