The 2016 Independent Spirit Awards announced its nominees on November 22, 2016.[1] The ceremony took place on February 25, 2017 and was hosted by Nick Kroll and John Mulaney.[2][3]

Truer than Fiction Award

Presented to an emerging director of non-fiction features who has not yet received significant recognition. The award includes a $25,000 unrestricted grant.
