Christ Illusion is the tenth studio album by Slayer, which was released on August 8, 2006 on American Recordings. It is the band's first album to feature original drummer Dave Lombardo since 1990's Seasons in the Abyss. The band have said that the album sounds like a combination of Seasons in the Abyss and God Hates Us All. The album was leaked in full on or around July 24, 2006. It entered the Billboard 200 at #5, the highest chart position ever achieved by the band in the U.S , but the next week the album dropped down to #41

Controversy
While no strangers to controversy, Slayer have recently come under fire from the Christian Right, due to the album's sacrilegious cover, which features a "drugged out" Jesus Christ, with a missing eye and amputated forearms, standing in a sea of blood and decapitated heads.[1] Even radio talk show host Mancow Muller - who has supported Slayer shows in the past - has taken offense. However, Slayer have never changed their themes of religion, war, hate and murder, so fans should not be surprised at all with Christ Illusion, Slayer is also being criticized for a song on the album, entitled, "Jihad". The song was written about the 9/11 terrorist attacks from the point of view of the terrorists, though the band says the song does not state that either side is wrong or right. Critics have labeled the album anti-religion, anti-theocratic and anti-war. [2] [3]
