"emo"

Fair enough having emo in the genre section, but not only is it the first genre listed, "alternative rock" is removed despite it always being there. Fix it to how it was please. 94.5.219.4 (talk) 13:36, 2 November 2013 (UTC)

Genres.

The band is primarily alternative rock. I personally am not comfortable having emo be the first genre cited. It gives the wrong idea. 4 listed genres isn't that bad. I won't change it at the risk of a potential citation. I think this is a terrible MISCONCEPTION. The genres listed are "Alternative rock, emo, pop punk, post-hardcore" My Chem site some influences being: Morrissey, David Bowie, Iron Maiden, The Misfits, The Pixies, Queen, Nirvana, Radiohead (many others). The band may have emerged during the "emo" phase but they had always denied that association. From Black Parade and towards the end, they were more of a modern rock and roll band than anything else.

Alternative Rock- sure.
Emo- No.
Pop Punk- One song? (It's not Okay).

The band did not form after 9/11

Court documents from when Matt sued the band show that Matt and Gerard started the band on or before 1 September 2001. He has also claimed that a lot of the band history is made up lies to make them look better. So this would seem to support this fact.

I'd recommend someone making serious changes to the paragraph detailing the beginnings of the band. Or at least to mention at the beginning that there is evidence to suggest the band was formed before 9/11.

Not done: In this article, Dewees, and several others, are listed as "Touring Members". In the May Death Never Stop You article (which is not a reliable source) he is listed as an "additional musician" along with lots of others, Neither of these appear to make him a "Member" - perhaps you can find a reliable source to back up your request? - Arjayay (talk) 10:03, 25 March 2014 (UTC)

Not sure how to use the booklet as a source but it lists him as a member along with the 6 others, with a page dedicated to him. Gerard posted a letter about the last song, which appears on that release. ""I consider Fake Your Death to be the 'last MCR song', and to me, it is absolutely the final fully realized collaboration between the members of the band,". James Dewees has full writing credits for that track and so it's heavily implied he's a member. (The song originally started as an idea for his solo project, before him/Gerard worked on the skeleton of the song further). Hi, I'd like an administrator to take emo off of the genre list. MCR have said many times they are not an 'emo' band. Please take it off, and add light metal or something if another genre is nessasary

Could any one of you (any editors who see this and have an interest in this article) please check the Bob Bryar article, it's a really embarrassing disaster especially after a recent edit. I don't even know why that article was recreated, it was supposed to be a redirect because people who are only notable for being in one band get redirected to the band article -- but it was repeatedly recreated and I don't have the interest to have edit wars over this (not that edit wars are ever okay). My Chemical Romance is not an emo band, Gerard even said himself they are not emo and do not belong in the emo music genre. They sound very different from emo bands. If you listen to My Chemical Romance and an emo band (Rites Of Spring and ect.) you will see that they are very different. To get to the point, they should not be categorized as an emo band.

James Dewees

James Dewees has a very confusing status as a member in MCR. I believe that Dewees should be considered a touring and session member than an actual band member. Unless there are actual sources of the band inducting Dewees into the band or the band mentioning Dewees as an official band member, then he should not be considered a member of the official lineup. On the band's facebook page, the only members listed are Toro, Iero, and the Way brothers. The band has never had any photoshoots including Dewees (that I am aware of). Dewees is never in any MCR music videos, and he is rarely involved in group interviews. The only source that I found is a YouTube video (that isn't really consired reliable), https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uo6gq_GHF8Y . In the video he says that he started off as a touring keyboardist, then he was known as "the keyboardist". Although Dewees said this himself, this isn't even considered reliable, as well as this isn't enough to cover that he is an official member of the lineup. @Its just cap: Although they have stated they do not describe their music as "emo", music critics, sourced in the 'Musical style' section of the article, have described their music multiple times as the genre as the band is highly connected and described as "emo" for most if not all of their career. James Dewees Touring member

Listing James Dewees as a touring and session member and removing him from all MCR credits for the following:

• He did not perform on any My Chemical Romance release and isn't credited in any My Chemical Romance releases. Dewees was in the band during the release of Danger Days until its split. Looking at the credits from AllMusic, he is not credited on both May Death Never Stop You and Danger Days. The keyboardist that played on both albums was Jamie Muhoberac, not Dewees.

• Not a single photoshoot includes Dewees in it during his stint as a member of the band, only including Gerard, Mikey, Frank, and Ray during Danger Days, and Bob Bryar during Black Parade.

@Teddy2Gloves: Which is why he is still added onto the personnel section as "additional" on all MCR album articles. Although, he is listed on the greatest hits album, nothing was ever official, announced, or had any mention of Dewees as an official band member. Please discuss in talk page before reverting. Just reverted it before noticing this discussion, my bad. Gerard made a post about Fake Your Death here: http://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1s00igr He states "These statements were contributed by the members of the band" - James contributed a piece. "t is absolutely the final fully realized collaboration between the members of the band. " and then continues to speak of how it was him / James in the studio before "the rest of the band" joined them. James also has a dedicated page in the greatest hit booklet, the same as the four of them and the two drummers. There's video interviews of James taken from the time of recording the new album where he mentions going from touring keyboardist to just "the" keyboardist. Also there was a post breakup interview with him about other stuff where he touches on becoming a full time member working on the fifth record non-stop for a year and talking about how many demos they had. Controversy - Emo Classification

I had deleted the "Emo Classification" subsection out of the controversy section. The bands disagreement over how they should be classified genre-wise does not equate to a controversy. Aside from being poorly sourced (usually the first indicator of something being controversial is many reliable secondary sources on the subject), the only text in the section was an excerpt of one of the members of the band talking about how they hate that classification. It is not WP:NPOV nor does it possess WP:NOTABILITY Aside from not being a controversy, its not even notable enough to be included in the article.
