2018

The 2017 Campeonato Carioca de Futebol will be the 114th edition of the main football division in Rio de Janeiro. The contest is organized by FERJ. The top four teams will compete in the 2018 Copa do Brasil.

Unlike previous editions of the Campeonato Carioca, there will be a preliminary stage played by the bottom four teams from the previous edition, as well as the top two teams from the latest edition of Série B (second tier), totaling six teams. The top two scoring teams are classified for the final phase. The remaining four teams compete in a new bracket - they're already disqualified from the final phase, but the bottom two are relegated to the second tier in the next edition. The final phase is played in two separate brackets of six teams each - including the two teams classified from the initial phase, one in each bracket. [1][2][3]
