Installation 01 is a fan-made first-person shooter video game based on the Halo series, being developed for Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems and using the Unity game engine. The game's aim is to bring back the classic Halo experience found in the Halo games created by Bungie Studios, while still innovating and creating something new. The game is neither supported nor endorsed by 343 Industries or Microsoft, but is being developed under Microsoft's "Game Content Usage Rules".[1] It will be released for free download from the Installation 01 website, date to be announced.

Gameplay

Installation 01 is a shooter game where players primarily experience gameplay from a first-person perspective. Much of the gameplay takes place on foot, but also includes segments focused on vehicular combat. The balance of weapons in the game are designed to adhere to the "Golden Triangle of Halo" set forth by Bungie in the original games: these are weapons, grenades, and melee attacks, which are available to a player in most situations. Players may dual-wield some weapons, forgoing the use of grenades and melee attacks in favor of the combined firepower of two weapons. Many weapons available in the original games return with cosmetic and power alterations.

Latest build of Installation 01, as demonstrated in the March 2017 multiplayer FAQ footage.

Installation 01 has been in development since late 2013, as a hobby project for Alexander Rogic (TheChunkierBean)[2]. During 2014, a team was assembled for the project and a demo was completed for for the Halo: Custom Edition livestream known as CE3. The CE3 demo consisted of 1 multiplayer map (a remake of High Ground) and only had the option of Slayer for gamemodes. Each game hosted could support a maximum of 16 players. Only two guns were present in the demo: the Assault Rifle and the Sniper Rifle. CE3 2014 aired on July 19, 2014 with Installation 01 as one of the applications shown and presented by TheChunkierBean and 343iChurch[3].

A Gameplay Teaser for Installation 01 was released on November 23, 2015. The game was shared on Reddit and other social media outlets throughout the day, with articles written by VG247,[4] Kotaku,[5] PCGamesN [6]. However, many fans found problems with the graphical side of the game.

In May 2016, the team was approached by TheSpartacat, a member of eSports organization PBL Halo, and asked the team if they wanted the organization to run an ad for the game during a tournament stream. A June Trailer Spot of Installation 01 premiered on PLG Halo's livestream and YouTube on June 8, 2016.[7][8]

Original Soundtrack

Installation 01 is to feature several original soundtracks written and composed by Jafat Meza and Enrique Laguilhoat. Previously the project's main theme was composed by Vincent Lefebvre, although it is unclear if he will continue to work for i01 in such a capacity.
