Unlike ''The Bachelor'', each contestant is given a nickname by Flav (due to his self-admitted drug problem and his ensuing bad memory), and is referred to by that nickname for as long as they remain in the competition. When a contestant is eliminated, her real name then is revealed. Another difference from ''The Bachelor'' is instead of a rose ceremony, where roses are given to contestants that survive elimination, there is a clock ceremony where contestants that are not eliminated receive gold clocks to wear around their necks.

Flavor of Love is an American reality television dating game show starring Flavor Flav of the rap group Public Enemy. The show is part of VH1's Celebreality lineup and its format is similar to that of The Bachelor, with contestants living in a mansion and being put through various challenges while Flav chooses to keep or eliminate them. He is helped in his quest by his bodyguard and chauffeur, "Big Rick," his mother, and his former romantic partner, Brigitte Nielsen (with whom he starred in another of VH1's Celebreality shows, Strange Love).

Unlike The Bachelor, each contestant is given a nickname by Flav (due to his self-admitted drug problem and his ensuing bad memory), and is referred to by that nickname for as long as they remain in the competition. When a contestant is eliminated, her real name then is revealed. Another difference from The Bachelor is instead of a rose ceremony, where roses are given to contestants that survive elimination, there is a clock ceremony where contestants that are not eliminated receive gold clocks to wear around their necks. Episode Title Original Air Date Summary Eliminated
1 Fifteen Beds and a Bucket of Puke January 1, 2006 The twenty contestants arrive at the mansion to discover that there are only fifteen beds. Goldie drinks too much vodka, yet manages to avoid elimination.

Bubblez (April), Cherry (Mieko), Picasso (Sarah), Shellz (Amber), Smokey (Johanna),

2 Rub a Dub Flav January 8, 2006 The fifteen remaining contestants engage in a competition where Flav has 45 minutes to spend with each woman in a private hot tub. In the van on the way to the resort, Rain and New York get into an argument over New York's unfriendliness toward the other contestants. At the resort, contestants prepare themselves and their hot tub with candles and drinks to keep Flav entertained. Later at the house, Pumkin and New York get into a fight and Pumkin runs to Flav for consolation. Red Oyster passes along information to Flav that Miss Latin has been calling her ex-boyfriend from the house.

Rain (Thela), Miss Latin (Xotchitl), Apples, Dimplez, Georgia (Jefandi),

3 A Friend of Flav's is a Friend of Mine January 15, 2006 Flav takes the women to visit some of his "old friends" as well as some "new friends". The four contestants who are taken to meet Flav's "old friends" suspect that they will be meeting his celebrity friends (most notably the other members of Public Enemy) but are surprised when they arrive at a senior center where their challenge is to care for and socialize with the elderly. The four contestants that go to meet Flav's "new friends" are taken to a park where they are challenged to organize and execute a birthday party for young children.

Peaches (Kim), Serious (Crystal),

4 The Flavor of Chicken January 22, 2006 The contestants try to impress Flav's mother by accompanying her to church, introducing themselves over tea and pastries at a tea room and by attempting to cook fried chicken. Hottie ends up attempting to cook her chicken in the microwave, stuffed with raw vegetables, leaving it raw during the presentation to Flav and his mother. Hoopz wins the cooking competition and has dinner with Flav and his mother. Sweetie is eliminated, as Flav doubts whether she really likes him.

Sweetie (Tikka)

5 What Happens in Flavor Stays in Flavor January 29, 2006 Flav takes the girls to Las Vegas to test their luck, literally, at a roulette table. During the elimination ceremony at the end of the episode, Red Oyster announces that she is eliminating herself from the competition to be with her father, who she has just found out was in a serious car accident. Flav tells Red Oyster he is sorry to see her go because he would have saved her from elimination.

Red Oyster (Abigail)

6 Interogitted February 12, 2006 Flav's old flame, Brigitte Nielsen, visits the house to administer lie detector tests to each contestant. While having his hair braided, Flav sees Hottie on an episode of Blind Date, where she states that she is looking to date a man who will spend money on her. Goldie is the only one who is completely truthful on her test. Hoopz spends the majority of the day arguing with Brigitte Nielsen, but manages to escape elimination, Smiley reveals her past as an exotic dancer, then argues with New York after admitting that she still has feelings for her ex-husband. New York passes this information on to Flav.

Hottie (Schatar), Smiley (Leilene)

7 Flav's Trippin February 19, 2006 The four remaining contestants go on an overnight trip with Flav. First, Pumkin and Hoopz go with Flav to a spa in Palm Springs, California where they do yoga, mud body painting, and then all enjoy a clean-up shower together. During dinner, Pumkin uses Hoopz's restroom break as her opportunity to give Flav a personal letter. After reading it, he later informs Hoopz that he and Pumkin are heading back to his room to spend the night together. For the second trip, Flav takes Goldie and New York to San Diego, where they visit the San Diego Zoo and Flav chooses to spend the night with Goldie, though she just wants to be his friend. This is followed by one of the most even-tempered elimination ceremonies of the season.

Goldie (Courtney)

8 Family Flavors February 26, 2006 Flav goes on outings with each girl and her parents. He takes Pumkin and her mother to get a manicure and a pedicure, takes Hoopz and her mother to Medieval Times, and takes New York and her parents to the Santa Malibu Tennis Resort. During Pumkin's outing, her mother reveals to Flav that Pumkin had also appeared on Blind Date, a fact that was known to the other girls, but not to Flav. Hoopz expresses her feeling that if she doesn't hook up with Flav at the end of the day, her mother might, since they took to themselves quite a bit. Unfortunately, Flav does not hit it off with New York's mother, who loudly expresses her objections to any possibility of her daughter marrying Flav.

Pumkin's failure to tell Flav about her past appearance on Blind Date leads to her elimination at the end of the episode. During the elimination ceremony, a near-brawl ensues between her and New York when Pumkin claims New York is an aspiring actress. Pumkin then spits in New York's face, causing New York to push her into the cameras. New York pulls off one of her high heels and prepares to go outside to "beat the bitch's ass," but is stopped by the camera crew. Outside the mansion, Pumkin states that she no longer cares for Flav and if he should pick New York in the end, he would get what he deserves. She also threatens to come back to the show with a gun to shoot New York. She later denies that on her myspace page, stating that her VH1 contract entitled them to cut off the rest of her words when they like.

In an interview with The Bakersfield Californian (may require free registration), Pumkin denies spitting in New York's face. She claims to have been told by producers that she would be leaving before this was filmed and to give them a "big ending." She asked what kind of an ending they wanted and they suggested spitting. She also claims that the spit was digitally enhanced. Regardless, the incident is considered the most shocking and popular moment of the entire series. This episode is also notable for the fact that two of the parents slip and reveal the real names of their daughters on air.

Pumkin (Brooke)

9 Flavor of Decision March 12, 2006 The final two contestants, Hoopz and New York, take a trip to Mexico with Flav. They each get a 24-hour period to spend alone with Flav and the first to go is New York. Flav decides to test her (because of her dislike for the outdoors) by taking her to a secluded beach for some kayaking. Later, during dinner, Flav gives New York a necklace with her show name on it. They then head back to the hotel, where the determined New York decides to share his bed that night. Hoopz has her date with Flav the next day, and they ride zip lines through the jungle. During their dinner, Hoopz also receives a necklace and they proceed to spend the evening cuddling.

After returning from Mexico, the women are treated (separately) to a day of dress shopping and getting their hair done for the impending final elimination ceremony. At the elimination, both women arrive wearing the same dress and each makes comments about how bad it looks on the other. After being certain that neither woman will be angry with him for choosing the other, Flav apologizes to New York and tells her that his choice is Hoopz (Nicole Alexander). New York spends the limo ride questioning if it really just happened that way, and questioning why Flav would do that to her. Back in the house, Flav presents Hoopz with a set of gold teeth that match his own.

New York (Tiffany)

10 Reunion Special April 2, 2006 All of the contestants are invited back to talk and take a look at highlights of the season, including the vomiting, the infamous spitting, and general cat-fighting. Host La La, believing that Red Oyster (who is now known to be Flav's lookout) has her own secrets that need to be revealed, announces to everyone that Red Oyster was married while on the show. Oyster claims to be divorced, both now and then. Flav believes her, but the other former contestants do not. Serious, a model before the show, maintains that she was genuinely interested in Flav and was not on the show to boost her career. New York and Pumkin take turns insulting each other. New York attempts to attack Pumkin, but security guards restrain her. Hoopz reveals that her connection with Flav was not "that" sort of connection, and, in turn, Flav announces that there is going to be a second season of the series, where he will once again attempt to find "the next great love of his life."

The complete first season came out on DVD on August 29, 2006. It is a 3-Disc Unrated edition with extra features.

Season 2

2 Flav is Blind August 13, 2006 Flavor Flav challenges his remaining fourteen Flavorettes to a blind speed dating competition so he can get to know them without appearance being a factor. But things fall apart when Flav realizes he can't eat something he can't see. The girls are given ten minutes each to leave a lasting impression on Flav as he stumbles from table to table. In the end, Flav chooses Tiger, Like Dat, and Buckwild as the winners while indulging on a bucket of KFC.

The next day, the three girls that won the speed dating competition accompany Flav on a group date to the "Gonzoleers" (gondolas) in the LBC. Flav tries to stick to the tradition of kissing all the girls as they pass under the bridges, but Tiger has no interest in kissing Flav. Later that evening, Toasteee gives Flav advice on who he should eliminate, and Flav takes that into consideration that night in the elimination ceremony.

"Wire" (Jesselyn)

"Spunkeey" (Maria)

3 She Works Hard for Her Honey August 20, 2006 Flav divides the girls into two groups. The first group, Buckwild, Krazy, Toasteee, Somethin', Bootz, and Deelishis have to work at one of Flav's favorite resturants. Somethin' gets fired for not taking it seriously, and Bootz wins the challenge. The next day, the second group has to clean a disgusting house after a crazy party the night before. The group consists of Beatuful, Buckeey, Tiger, Payshintz, Nibblz, and Like Dat. They find out they are cleaning hip hop legend Warren G's house. The winner is Nibblz, and she and Flav have a king and queen dinner. Bootz and Payshintz then start fighting because Payshintz keeps making remarks about going home to "get with" a Chinese man. Bootz tells Flav that Tiger, Somethin', and Payshintz should all go home. Flav takes this into consideration, and eliminates Tiger and Somethin'. He has a clock for Payshintz as well, but she chooses not to accept it because she can't take the drama with Bootz anymore.

"Tiger" (Britney)

"Somethin" (Tykeisha)

"Payshintz" (Jasmine)

4 Jelly on the Telly August 28, 2006 The episode begins on the night of the previous elimination, when Toasteee and Nibblz share Flav's bed that night. In the morning, Flav holds a hip-hop danceoff contest. The girls are divided into three teams of three each. In the end, Krazy, Nibblz, and Deelishis end up winning. Each girl gets a private date with Flav; that night, Krazy goes with him on a romantic candlelit dinner to KFC, Nibblz spends the next morning in his bedroom and has breakfast with him, and Deelishis goes with him to a strawberry field.

In the meantime, Toasteee tells the other girls that the night before, she heard noises and concluded that Nibblz was giving Flav a handjob. Nibblz retaliates by revealing to Flav that Toasteee apparently admitted that she has done pornography and can be found on the internet and in a magazine. Toasteee denies the allegations, so Flav does some internet research to see who's lying. In the meantime, Toasteee goes to Flav, letting him know that she's leaving because she can't handle the drama anymore. Flav tells Toasteee that if she leaves now, she's basically implying that Nibblz was right. In turn, Toasteee agrees to stay. In that evening's eliminations, Flav has both girls promise they're telling the truth. But right after that, Flav holds up a pornographic picture of Toasteee. Everyone is shocked. Toasteee claims that it's not necessarily evidence against her as she leaves.

"Toasteee" (Jennifer)
5 Famous Friends and Strangeness September 3, 2006 This episode starts with the girls finding out that they must throw a party for some of Flav's famous friends. Like Dat confronts Buckwild about her speech patterns, claiming that she is talking like she's black and that it isn't how she really talks, but Buckwild says that she's not a fake. Buckeey, Like Dat, and Buckwild get into a fight about Buckeey and Deelishis not working hard. After all the fights, the girls are excited to find out who will be coming to the party. The special guests are Three 6 Mafia, Warren G, Don Magic Juan, DJ Quik, Ying Yang Twins, and G-Unit. During the party, Three 6 Mafia asks Krazy to sing one of Flav's songs. She says she knows one of them, but she can't sing it. Bootz and Krazy have a fight about Krazy being real or not. Like Dat and Buckwild then get into the same argument again. Buckwild says that when she is around different races of people, her voice changes. She then wants to leave but Like Dat convinces her to stay. Flav spends time with Buckeey, Bootz, and Like Dat before elimination. However, Like Dat is sent home because Flav could only see her as a friend. The girls are then shocked to find out that another guest will be joining them for tomorrow: season one's New York. "Like Dat" (Darra)
6 Photo Shoot To The Death September 10, 2006 This episode starts on the night of the previous elimination, when New York returns to visit and help with elimination. The girls all remember Season 1, so they are not pleased that New York is here. The next morning, the girls are invited to the studio of Urb magazine for a photography shoot. New York reviews how the girls are dressed, and has negative things to say about every one of them. When the girls go to the studio, New York is going through a confrontation with Buckwild. Flav takes Buckwild's side, and New York runs out of the building, but Flav consoles her later. Later on New York gets into a semi physical confrontation with Krazy. Flav steps in and tells them both that he is ending the argument right now. He tells them that the are there for one reason, and it is not to fight. New York goes on to give Flav advice on elimination, and Flav holds it in regard that night.

At the eliminations, Flav eliminates Beatuful (because she seemed too reserved), and Nibblz (because Flav thinks she isn't a good role model for his children). Flav decides to welcome New York back as a full-time contestant, at which point Buckwild returns her clock, out of fear that things would get out of control and she would violate her probation. It is now noticeable that Buckwild's accent may be fake because she it changes as she confronts Flav about inviting New York to remain.

"Beatuful" (Kelly Jay)

"Nibblz" (Dominique)

"Buckwild" (Becky)

7 Boxin' Each Other Out September 17, 2006 Five girls remain: New York, Krazy, Bootz, Buckeey, and Deelishis. Flav instructs the remaining contestants to put pictures of the two girls who most deserve elimination into a box. They choose Krazy and New York, and as a result, neither of them get dates that evening. They pick Krazy because they think she is fake. New York is picked because she came in the end, and wouldn't be a good mom for Flav's children. So the first date is with Buckeey. Flav takes Buckeey to a bowling alley, and teaches her how to bowl. The second date is with Bootz. Flav has a romantic evening with Bootz in the backyard. But, Bootz tells Flav that she is going to wait until she gets married to have sex. Flav is shocked and upset by this. The next day, Deelishis is getting ready for her date. When New York comes in and argues with her for saying that New York is fake. Big Rick must come in to split them apart. When New York leaves, she says that she just ruined Deelishis's date. But, Deelishis and Flav have a great time on an exotic camel ride date. Buckeey and Krazy then get into a dangerous fight about Krazy talking about Bootz, Buckeey, and Deelishis to New York. Buckeey almost pushes Krazy off of the balcony. New York laughs, and tries to break them apart. At the elimination ceremony, Buckeey is eliminated for almost pushing Krazy off of the balcony. New York then states her plan. Which is that Deelishis will be her next "victim" and then Bootz will be the next "victim". She also states that Krazy thinks that they are friends, but New York is just using Krazy to eliminate the other girls.

"Buckeey" (Shay)

8 Steppin' Out Flav Style September 24, 2006 The episode begins with Bootz and Deelishis still in their bed discussing their disdain for NY being a part of the competition. After the talk all of the girls go downstairs where Rick delivers the Flav O Gram which NY reads. Flav pairs Deelishis and Krazy for the first date to LBC. As usual NY becomes openly upset and goes upstairs. After she leaves Deelishis snides that New York is a looney but soon afterward Deelishis follows NY to the balcony where she is standing visibly upset that she hasn't had a date with Flav in 4 days. The conversation is short but almost escalates into a confrontation after Deelishis tells NY to redirect her hostility. After the discussion Krazy and Deelishis set off for their date with Flav. When they get there Flav greets them and the two climb aboard the yacht. The girls seem to be enjoying the trip. Flav makes out with Deelishis which makes Krazy upset. But soon Deelishis leaves Flav's side "nauseous and sick" from the sea. Krazy and Flav speak intimately. After they get off the yacht Flav takes the girls to the Queen Mary for accomodations. The girls prepare for dinner. During the dinner Flav asks Krazy how she feels about him and what she feels they share in common. When she fails to answer approriately, he asks her to sing. She says she would love a record deal, but doesn't have the money. Afterward he asks Deelishis how she feels about him. Deelishis explains her feelings for him, admitting her jealousy, crying. Flav decides to spend the night with Deelishis. Flav turns and bids farewell to Krazy but mistakenly calls her Deelishis! Deelishis and Flav retire to to their room where eventually the two fall asleep together.

The next day NY and Bootz meet Flav at a winery where a women brings three horses for each of them. Bootz giddies up immediately but New York is hesitant and panics. Eventually all four of them go for a ride through the winery fields. Theys top at a beautiful spread where they sip wine and Flav tells Bootz he is really feeling her. Naturally NY is angry. Tensions rise but soon all three wind up stomping grapes together. They then go off to shower. They leave the winery and go to hotel Pechanga where Bootz and NY prepare for dinner. An entire night club is closed off for their date and all Flav's attention goes to Bootz. NY feels ignored and demands attention then storms off. Flav gives chase and asks her to spend the night with him, which NY later reveals was her plan. Bootz and NY then argue over dinner. After dinner they leave for their room and NY reveals that she again had sex with Flav.

After the two dates they are all faced yet again with the elimination ceremony. The first clock goes to NY. The second goes to Deelishis. And the third goes to Krazy, as despite Flav's worries about her intentions, he feels that they have a strong connection. Flav then eliminates Bootz because she wouldn't have sex with him until she is married. But before she leaves, she gives him her phone number.

Season 1 Controversy

File:Fol spit.jpg
New York as she is about to be spit upon by Pumkin (the spittle is visible in midair)

Some controversy exists over the involvement of some contestants in various aspects of the entertainment business. For instance, in Episode 6, it is revealed that "Hottie" had previously been on the reality dating show, Blind Date. "Cherry" had been a contestant on Next, "Smiley" had previously been seen as a contestant for WWE's Diva Search, and had also posted a poem on her website that she was to have said to the audience had she stayed in that competition. "Pumkin" admitted to the other contestants that she had been on Blind Date and Next. During her polygraph examination with Brigitte Nielsen, it was implied that "Pumkin" had sexual intercourse with Booz Celestin while participating on an unnamed reality television program. However, in her blog at MySpace, "Pumkin" asserts that this was untrue:

"You cannot believe everything you hear . . . Yes, it is true that everything that is coming out of our mouths was actually said. However, they can use what we say in whatever context they choose. It does not necessarily have to be how we meant it. For example, if someone said that they loved Flav at the end of the show, they can take that "I love you" and place it wherever they want to in the shows process. I have never had sex on reality television either. As long as we said yes or no at some point throughout the lie detector test, then they have the audio and can choose to paste it wherever they want to put it." (From her blog entry of Sunday, February 12, 2006, "How Real Is Reality Television?")
