Blind Guardian is a heavy metal and power metal band started in the mid-1980s in Krefeld, Germany.

Before calling themselves Blind Guardian they released a demo under the name 'Lucifer's Heritage' in 1986. The four members of this band are deemed "bards" by their fans. The members are Hansi Kürsch - lead singer and bass, André Olbrich and Marcus Siepen - guitars, and Thomen Stauch - drums.

The band deal mostly with Tolkien and medieval lore, and has gone from an initial following in Europe and Japan to being an influence across the world.

Together with Jon Schaffer - leader and founder of Iced Earth, Hansi founded a band project called "Demons and Wizards".
