Mulawin versus Ravena is an upcoming Filipino fantasy television series created and produced by GMA Network. It is a sequel to the fantasy series Mulawin televised in 2004 starred by Richard Gutierrez, Angel Locsin and Dennis Trillo. It is set to premiere on May 22, 2017 starring Dennis Trillo together with an ensemble cast succeeding the most grandest Philippine epic telefantasya Encantadia. The series will be directed by Don Michael Perez and Dominic Zapata, the same team who developed the original series. It is not a retelling-requel of Mulawin unlike Encantadia, but it comprises the continuation of the stories, affairs, and the aftermath which includes the additional generational characters and the introduction of the Bathalumans, the origin of Dakila, the founding demi-god of Pugad Lawin kingdom in Avila, Encantadia.

Plot

Mt. Apo, is situated in Avila, in the mountains of Encantadia. Mandarangan (Supreme God) and Sandawa (goddess of Nature and keeper of Mt. Apo) had three offsprings: Magindara, who becomes keeper of the domain of water; Lumad, protector of the domain of land; and Dakila, guardian of the domain of air.

Lumad marries a human and becomes mortal. They establish a tribe of nature-loving men who have considered Mt. Apo their home. This tribe would eventually splinter into many other tribes of indigenous people, and collectively, they would be called Lumads, in memory of their common ancestor.

Magindara chooses not to marry or fall in love with a mortal upon the strict advice of her mother Sandawa. Marrying a mortal would mean embracing mortality, and Sandawa does not want her daughter Magindara, her only remaining companion, to follow the footsteps of Lumad. Magindara, like her mother, has remained immortal as a mermaid, being the guardian in Lake Venado at the heart of Mt. Apo.

Dakila, as protector of the skies, establishes a kingdom of Avians in Avila, the highest point in Mt. Apo. They have called themselves Mulawin. Though humans have caused the destruction of the forests, forcing Avians out of their own habitat, Dakila and most of the Mulawins have maintained their benevolence towards humans. This does not sit well with a faction of Mulawin headed by Ravenum. They decide to breakaway and form their own tribe called Ravena and establish a kingdom called Halconia in the fiery volcanic mines of Mt. Apo.

Since then, Mulawin and Ravena have been at war, fighting each other over humans. Both Mulawin and Ravena have had histories of love affairs and interactions with human beings which resulted to human-Mulawin wars, producing half-blood offsprings like: half-human, half-Mulawin Alwina and half-human, half-Ravena Gabriel. This dilution of their race has made Mulawins and Ravenas mortal like humans. And it is the desire for immortality that sets the stage for the new chapter of the Mulawin-Ravena saga.

Feuding realms for a fortunate fate.

The goddess of nature and the guardian of Balasik, where Mt. Apo is situated. The mother of Dakila, Lumad, and Magindara. After Lumad became mortal and Dakila made his Avian kingdom, she will do anything to keep her only remaining child Magindara after the death of her sons. She can transmogrify into an enchanted bird. She has a powerful voice and the ability of flight which Magindara inherited. She has nature and earth abilities and will fall in love with Panabon .

• Bathalumang Magindara

Lovi Poe

Daughter of Sandawa and Mandarangan; guardian of Lake Venado that is located within Mt. Apo in Balasik and near Adamya. She doesn't want to fall in love or marry a mortal. But all of this will change when she falls in love with Gabriel. She is Sang'gre Alena's friend and they often see each other at Adamya wherein Bathalumang Haliya resides. She is a mermaid and has the ability to manipulate water .

• Alwina

Heart Evangelista

Prophesized to be the second Sugo (chosen one) after Aguiluz, who will unite the Mulawins and humans. She later joined forces with the Mulawins as she discovers her real identity.

• Aviona

Carla Abellana

One of the most beloved Avians that soon fell in love with the mortal, Rodrigo, and had an offspring, Anya. She ordered Anya to look for Almiro to bring back peace in Avila.

• Gabriel

Dennis Trillo

The King of Halconia and the most powerful and fearsome leader of the Ravenas. He will later be in the good side defeating Rashana and Siklab. He will become Magindara's lover .

• Almiro

Will Ashley (young), Derrick Monasterio

Mulawin and a 1/4 human. He is the son of Alwina and Aguiluz. After being abandoned, he is adopted being a slave in Hacienda Montenegro. Will he be found to bring back peace in his rightful throne in Avila?

• Anya

Leanne Bautista (young), Bea Binene

The half-human half-Mulawin daughter of Aviona and Rodrigo. After being banished from Avila due to the decision of Daragit, her mother told her to look for Almiro in order to return justice and unity in their kingdom. She was adopted by Lourdes, Alwina's adoptive mother. She is a luntaie.

• Pagaspas "Gas"

Marc Justin Alvarez (young), Miguel Tanfelix

A Mulawin who likes Lawiswis. He is a very brave warrior of Avila. He will set aside his belief in the name of love. He can turn into an owl.

• Lawiswis "Wis"

Althea Ablan (young), Bianca Umali

The most beautiful Avian/Mulawin. She likes Pagaspas, but due to an agreement, she is set to marry the prince of the Ravenas, Siklab. She can turn herself into an enchanted bird.

• Roi Vinzon as Nunong Daragit

The temporary king and the eldest of Avila and former general of the Mulawin. He will bring change to the lives of everyone living in Avila. Unknown to anyone, he has evil intentions.

• Ariel Rivera as Panabon

The kind and brave member of the Tabons or Mortals with Avian blood. He fell in love with Sandawa.

• Valerie Concepcion as Tuka

A Mulawin who adopted Lawiswis. She will get the trust of Daragit in belief of not being happy with mortals. She will not accept Pagaspas' and Lawiswis' romance.

• Chynna Ortaleza as Rashana

A Ravena, she is the sister of the former king of Halconia, Rasmus. She is the competitor of Siklab in the power of Halconia. To remain her position, she seduced Gabriel and soon married to be the queen of the Ravena. She is the consort-de facto queen of Halconia.

• Dion Ignacio as Siklab

The prince of the Ravenas and the next in line for the throne of Halconia. He is set to be married to Lawiswis. Hungered for power, he will do anything to get what he wants. His anme is derived from the weapon of the diwata queen of Hathoria, Pirena.

• TJ Trinidad as Greco

A Ravena and Gabriel's second-in-command and friend. He has dark intentions.

• Wynwyn Marquez as Ribay

A Ravena and Rashana's second-in-command and protector. She also knows the truth about Gabriel's child.

• Kiko Estrada as Rafael Montenegro

Son of Savanna and a friend of Almiro. After having an accident and became paralyzed, he will have anger on the world. He will be the enemy of Almiro for the love of Anya. A revelation threats and that if will be revealed, his life will change forever.

• David Licauco as Malik

A Tabon/Mulawin, he is the childhood friend of Anya that will eventually like her. He will do anything to find Anya after her banishment.

• Charee Pineda as Donya Savanna Montenegro

A human and the arrogant and ruthless owner of Hacienda Montenegro. She is the mother of Rafael and the sister of Rodrigo. She will torture Almiro as a slave.

• Angelu De Leon-Rivera as Lourdes

The adoptive mother of Alwina and later Anya. A human that lives in Avila but will be tortured after the Avians' attitudes changes about humans. When she came back to the mortal world, she adopted Anya.

Leader of the Lumads and a farmer in Hacienda Montenegro. He will fall in love with Lourdes.

A high-ranking Ravena.

  • Avilan, the Kambal-Diwa of the air gem of Sang'gre Amihan.
  • Pakdaw, one of the Tres Aves and the one who will kill the Bwarka.
• Jay Manalo as Lumad

The son of Sandawa and Mandarangan, a brother to Magindara and a half-brother to Dakila. He will be the guardian of the domain of the air. He is the ancestor of the Lumads who will embrace mortality and will pursue the forbidden love with a mortal. He will become mortal and die in Tierra Fuego.

• Ehra Madrigal as Lumad's wife

A citizen of Mt. Apo who will meet Lumad, her love of life forever. She will become a widow after Lumad's mortal death. She will be turn into a Ravena and will be Sandawa's rival to Panabon. She will be killed by Siklab.

• Paolo Contis as Banoy

One of the Tres Aves, he is the Ave of Takipsilim. He and Pagaspas gets along. He died prior to the Great Mulawin War III.

• Louise delos Reyes as Palong

The only remaining of the Tres Aves.

• Karen delos Reyes as Bwarka

A halimaw who will wreak havoc to the Mulawins and will be killed by the Tres Aves.

Production

Development

The first appearance of the Mulawin in 12 years happened in the 2016 requel of Encantadia starring Miguel Tanfelix as Pagaspas, the same actor who portrayed the same character in 2004. It was followed by a special appearance of Alden Richards in the same series as Lakan. In the 2005 Encantadia series, the Mulawins also made several appearances including Avilan, the leader of the Mulawins serving as a spirit guide to Amihan. The show was first announced during GMA Network's New Year Countdown, with the official title as Mulawin vs Ravena as part of the network's line-up this 2017. Principal photography and filming are yet to be announced.

Casting

In November 2016, Popoy Caritativo, manager of actor Dennis Trillo posted an Instagram photo regarding his meeting with GMA Network executives including Cheryl Ching-Sy, AVP for Drama regarding the sequel of the hit 2004 series, Mulawin. Trillo was also present in the said meeting which was later revealed to topbill the upcoming series, in a yet to be determined role. In December 2016, Alden Richards and Miguel Tanfelix who both appeared in the 2016 version of Encantadia as Lakan and Pagaspas respectively were also announced to be part of show. On January 16, 2017, most of the cast were announced by GMA Executive, Helen Sese which includes the Asia's songbird, Regine Velasquez. Also, Regine reunites with Ariel Rivera 13 years ago since Forever in My Heart in 2004.
