Waterparks is an American rock band formed in Houston, Texas in 2011.[3] The group currently consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Awsten Knight, backing vocalist and guitarist Geoff Wigington, and drummer Otto Wood.[3]
The band has released three EPs, two of which were released independently with one released via Equal Vision. The group released its first full-length album, Double Dare, on November 4, 2016 via Equal Vision.[4][5]
History
Formation and early recordings (2011–2015)
The band was formed in 2011 by Awsten Knight and Gage Matthieu, both of whom met while they were in other bands.[3][6] The group's first show was on August 17, 2012 at Warehouse Live in Houston[7] with Invent, Animate, DWHB, and Life as Lions;[8] the band continued performing at local venues throughout Texas over the following years.[3] The band performed as a supporting act for pop musician Aaron Carter on his Houston tour date in 2013.[3][9] The band also performed on the Houston dates of the Warped Tour in 2013[10] and 2015.[11]
Signing and Double Dare (2016–present)
On November 6, 2015, the band signed with Equal Vision Records.[2] After searching for producers, the band became managed by Benji Madden and Joel Madden.[12][13] On January 15, 2016, the group released an EP titled Cluster, which was co-produced by Benji Madden.[14][15] On November 19, 2015, the band performed with Good Charlotte 'Dads' during the group's comeback performance at The Troubadour in West Hollywood, California.[16]
The group performed on the Black Cat Tour supporting Never Shout Never in 2016,[17] and on every date of the 2016 Warped Tour.[18][19] The band also performed on the End The Madness Tour supporting Sleeping with Sirens in late 2016.[20]
The group released a single titled 'Stupid For You' on August 31, 2016 in promotion of its debut album, Double Dare, which was released on November 4, 2016. The album consists of 13 songs including the 3 pre released singles. [21]
Musical style and influences
Musically, the band has been characterized as pop punk,[22][23][24] and pop rock.[25] The sound of the band has been influenced by Sum 41, Blink-182, Good Charlotte, Green Day, My Chemical Romance,[7] Fall Out Boy, and Saves the Day.[26]
