Emma Dent Coad is the Labour Party MP for the Kensington constituency, first elected at the 2017 general election.
Biography
Dent Coad was born in Chelsea as the youngest of six in an Anglo-Spanish family, and has lived in North Kensington since 1986.[1] She was elected to Kensington and Chelsea London Borough Council in 2006, representing Golborne ward.[2]
Glenfell Tower
Dent Coad is a member of the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority[3] and was a council-appointed board member of Kensington and Chelsea TMO from 2008[4] to 31 October 2012.[5] The Glenfell Action group indicates that Emma was on the board during the time period when residents first started raising concerns about the fire risk assessments at Glenfell Tower. [6]
She was elected MP for Kensington in the 2017 general election after she defeated the former Conservative MP Victoria Borwick with a majority of 20, overturning a 7,020 majority.[7] The announcement was finally made at around 9pm on 9 June 2017 after three recounts.[8]
She is studying for a PhD at the University of Liverpool's School of Architecture on "Constructing Modern Spain: Architecture, Politics and Ideology under Franco, 1939-1975",[9] which she has put on hold for a period on being elected.[10]
