Griswold High School is the only public education institute in Griswold, Connecticut. Surrounding towns (Lisbon, Canterbury, Sprague and Voluntown) have the opportunity to send their students that attended their secondary schools to Griswold. These towns may also send their students to Norwich Free Academy, Ella T. Grasso Southeastern Technical High School, H. H. Ellis Technical High School, Norwich Technical High School, and Marine Science Magnet High School.
Inside the School
The campus includes an auditorium, gymnasium, and specialized areas for music, technology, and construction. It has a lighted football field and track, softball and baseball fields, tennis courts, and numerous soccer fields and walking trails. There are staffed library and media centers. The high school also now has NEASC accreditation, along with several honors and AP classes. Griswold has many sports teams and an award-winning music program.
Music and arts
Griswold High School has a very expansive music and arts program in which many of its students participate. It has a pep band for football and parades, a concert band, wind ensemble (auditioned group) and all are run by Amanda Richmond. There is a general choir, a concert choir (auditioned group), a chamber choir (auditioned group) and all are run by Raymond Churchill, a string orchestra, and a steel drum band which are run by Kevin Kinsall. The school has won numerous awards for its music program, especially through its annual music trip to play in competitions, across North America. Students who are enrolled in the concert band, orchestra, and chamber choir have the opportunities to audition for regional music festivals on the state level.
The arts program is also quite expansive, with an annual drama production in the late fall and a musical production in the spring. The current shows for the 2017-2018 school year are, The Miracle Worker, the fall drama run by Timothy Moore, and, for the second time ever (last time being in 2000) Little Shop Of Horrors, the spring musical run by Raymond Churchill (choral director for choirs listed above also)
