The Futlyar (Fizik-2) is a Russian deep-water homing torpedo being tested by the Russian Navy in 2017 and expected to enter service in 2018. Developed by the Saint Petersburg Research Institute of Marine Engineering and produced by the Dagdizel Machine-Building Factory, it will replace the UGST ('Fizik-1.) The Futlyar is a wire-guided, heat-seeking torpedo with a speed over 60 knots (111 km/h, a depth of more than 540 yards (500 meters) and would be able to hit targets at a range of over 35 miles (60 km). It will first equip the new Borey and Yasen classes of nuclear submarines.[1][2][3]
