A landslide caused by torrential rain occurred on 24 July 2017 at about 6:00 am local time in Maoxian County, Sichuan province in south-western China.[1][2] The incident lead to the destruction of 40 homes in Xinmo village, where more than 140 people are feared buried. The landslide also blocked a two-kilometre stretch of a river.[3]
