Major disruptions

A major breakdown occurred on 15 March 2012 affected 90,000 commuters due to a power supply problem in the tunnel at Outram Park station. This caused train services to be disrupted, between 0630 to 1635, on NEL between Harbourfront and Dhoby Ghaut stations. Subsequently, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) intends to impose financial penalties amounting to S$400,000 (approximately US$315,000) on SBS Transit for the disruption.[1]

Line information

The North East Line was supposed to have a "NE2" (Keppel) between HarbourFront (NE1) and Outram Park (NE3). However, due to the area used to be under the Malaysia KTM railway company, that station was never developed. Recently, SBS Transit has stated that two stations may be procured. One possibly the missing Keppel (NE2) and the other Punggol North (NE18) stations.[2]

Downtown Line Stage 1 was opened in the year 2013 connecting Bugis (DT14) to Chinatown (DT19). Stage 2 will open near the end of 2015 reaching out from Bukit Panjang (DT1) to Rochor (DT13), with the exception of "DT4", which is shelved due to undeveloped area. Stage 3 will open in the year 2017 reaching out to Expo (DT35) from Fort Canning (DT20). Downtown Line Extension will open in the year 2024 from Xilin (DT36) to Sungei Bedok (DT37).
