Re:Creators (Japanese: レクリエイターズ, Hepburn: Re:Kurieitāzu, stylized as Re:CREATORS) is a Japanese anime television series produced by Troyca. The series is about a high school student who becomes involved in a battle between several characters from manga, anime, and video games who somehow appear in the real world. It premiered on April 8, 2017, and is being exclusively streamed by Amazon on their Amazon Video service. A manga adaptation by Daiki Kase began its serialization on February 18, 2017.

Plot

Sōta Mizushino is a young high school student and anime fan who dreams of writing his own light novel. While looking to the anime adaptation of the mecha light novel Elemental Symphony of Vogelchevalier for inspiration, the tablet computer he is watching it on sputters and drags him into the anime's world, where he witness a battle between the anime's character Selesia and a mysterious girl wearing a military uniform. After returning with Selesia, Sōta discovers that other characters from different stories and forms of media were also brought to the real world, with some of them aligned with the military uniform girl, who promised them the ways to end the strife in their worlds and a way back home, unaware of her true intentions. To stop her, Sōta and Selesia agree to find the other characters and bring them home; lest the military uniform princess will bring untold destruction to every world that exists.

Sōta Mizushino (水篠颯太, Mizushino Sōta)

A young high school student, who is timid but good-natured. He was accidentally pulled into Selesia's anime in the beginning of the story and unintentionally brought her with him back to the real world. He aspires to make his own light novel, but struggles to draw. He eventually uncovers Altair's true identity, but reluctantly chose to withhold this information from the others. He was friends with Altair's creator, Setsuna, until he feels jealousy towards her superior drawing skills, and was unable to help her during Setsuna's false plagiarism accusation case that drove her to commit suicide.
Selesia Yupitiria (セレジア・ユピティリア, Serejia Yupitiria)
Voiced by: Mikako Komatsu[1]
The main female protagonist of the anime Elemental Symphony of Vogelchevalier (精霊機想曲フォーゲルシュバリエ, Seireikisōkyoku Fōgerushubarie) that was adapted from a light novel of the same name. She's a typical strong female lead with a comedic side. After learning that she's a fictional character, she at first struggles to adapt to the situation, but eventually comes to terms with it. She's a skilled sword fighter and is capable of flight. She also owned a huge mecha called Vogelchevalier, until it was destroyed by Altair.
Meteora Österreich (メテオラ・エスターライヒ, Meteora Esutāraihi)
Voiced by: Inori Minase[1]
An NPC from the open world RPG Avalken of Reminisce (追憶のアヴァルケン, Tsuioku no Avaruken). She is an intellectual person who is silent and stoic and speaks in a slow, bland, and dry tone. However, she tries her best to be emotional, such as attempting to make puns to cheer others up, tough these puns are extremely bad. She is also a bit of a glutton, enjoying real world food. She is capable of flight as well as creating magical shields but lacks offensive abilities, relying on real world artillery to make up for her weakness. Her Creator, the planner of Avalken of Reminisce, is already deceased.
Altair (アルタイル, Arutairu) / Military Uniform Princess (軍服の姫君, Gunpuku no Himegimi)
Voiced by: Aki Toyosaki[1]
A mysterious young girl who brought the other creations into the real world in order to force their creators to alter their worlds. However, she is actually aiming for the destruction of the real world. It is eventually revealed that she is a fan-fiction character from an online video called Altair: World Étude, created by Sōta's friend Setsuna. After Setsuna's death others started making fan-fiction about her. As a result, she has a nearly infinity amount of abilities. However, overusing these abilities will result in her getting thrown out of the real world and back into her own.

Alicetelia February (アリステリア・フェブラリィ, Arisuteria Feburaryi)
Voiced by: Yōko Hikasa[1]
A young woman who is a noble's daughter and protagonist of the fantasy epic manga and anime franchise titled Alicetelia of the Scarlet (緋色のアリステリア, Hiiro no Arisuteria). A brash and heroic warrior who only wishes to save her people, she supports Altair, and expresses intense hatred towards her creator for making her world into such a dark setting for the sake of "entertainment". She fights using a lance and can use powerful magic spells. She can also summon a pegasus to mount and soldiers to fight by her side. She is Mamika's closest ally and she calls her Alice for short.
Mamika Kirameki (煌樹まみか, Kirameki Mamika)
Voiced by: Rie Murakawa[1]
A young girl who is the protagonist of the magical girl anime series Magical Slayer Mamika (マジカルスレイヤー・まみか, Majikaru Sureiyā Mamika). She can fly and fire heart-shaped magical projectiles. While not dangerous in her world, her attacks are deadly in the real world. She was initially very naive, trying to reason with others, yet quickly resorting to fighting if they don't agree with her. However, upon realizing the hypocrisy in her actions, she begins to question herself if what she is doing is truly right. She consequently lost her will to fight for some time, but eventually overcame it to protect others. While initially a supporter of Altair, she turns against her after discovering her true motives. She dies after succumbing to wounds she sustained while fighting Altair.
Yūya Mirokuji (弥勒寺優夜, Mirokuji Yūya)
Voiced by: Kenichi Suzumura[1]
A young man who is the main antagonist of the Lockout Ward Underground -Dark Night- (閉鎖区underground-dark night-, Heisaku Underground - dark night -) manga. He is a violent person who enjoys picking fights, though he is shown to have a more calm and laid-back side. He is not interested in making his creator alter his world, being fine with the way he is. He fights using a bokken and can summon a spirit called Hangaku to fight by his side, which is stolen by Magane when she uses her powers on him. Though he remains independent at first, he came to the aid of Sōta's group against Altair's faction several times and eventually joins them.
Rui Kanoya (鹿屋瑠偉, Kanoya Rui)
Voiced by: Sora Amamiya[1]
The protagonist of the mecha anime Infinite Divine Machine Mono Magia (無限神機モノマギア, Mugen Shinki Mono Magia). Rui pilots the giant robot "Gigas Machina", and first comes to his creator's house along with it after arriving in the real world. A child soldier in his world, Rui was constantly thrust into battle, having never had the chance to enjoy life or even go out on a date. He is thus relieved that the real world is much more peaceful. He is also attracted to girls younger than him.
Magane Chikujōin (築城院真鍳, Chikujōin Magane)
Voiced by: Maaya Sakamoto[1]
An antagonist from the light novel and anime series Record of the Night Window Demon (夜窓鬼録, Yasōkiroku). She puts on the guise of a sarcastic high school student, but is really a psychotic murderer who enjoys toying with others' emotions and shows no remorse towards killing innocents. She possesses an ability called "Infinite Deception of Words" that allows her to bend reality through lies and deception; by telling a lie and manipulating somebody into rejecting that claim it creates a "lie of a lie" which by proxy makes the initial claim become real. She choses to remain independent from either faction.
Blitz Tokar (ブリッツ・トーカー, Burittsu Tōkā)
Voiced by: Atsushi Ono[1]
A secondary character from cyberpunk anime and manga Code・Babylon. A former bounty hunter. He isn't interested in making his creator alter his world and only sides with Altair as part of a deal to return him to his story after she accomplishes her goal. He possesses a watch that allows him to fly and fights using a gun. He also possesses special bullets called Gravity Bombs.

Takashi is the original author of the light novel Elemental Symphony of Vogelchevalier. While he and Selesia initially clashed over his attitude towards her, he has developed a greater sense of respect for her. His real name is Takeshi Ōsawa (大沢 武志, Ōsawa Takeshi).
Marine (まりね)
Voiced by: Hisako Kanemoto
Marine is the illustrator of the light novel Elemental Symphony of Vogelchevalier. She currently resides with Selesia and Meteora. Her real name is Ayano Kōura (皇浦 綾乃, Kōura Ayano).

The author of manga series Code・Babylon. She's often mistaken as a man due her pen name and art style. Her real name is Chika Ōsawa.
Ryō Yatōji (八頭 司遼, Yatōji Ryō)

The author of manga series Lockout Ward Underground -Dark Night-. His real name is Ryōsuke Gōda.
Gai Takarada (高良田 概, Takarada Gai)
Voiced by: Jun'ichi Yanagita
The author of manga Alicetelia of the Scarlet. He was locked out by Alicetelia out of her anger (to the fact that her cruel world is just entertainment) until Sōta expressed his feelings towards the story. His real name is Naoya Takarada.
Setsuna Shimazaki (シマザキセツナ, Shimazaki Setsuna)
Voiced by: Ayaka Ōhashi
The late creator of the online video called Altair: World Étude, from which Altair originated. She and Sōta were friends until he ends up feeling himself jealousy for her superior drawing skills, and a false accuation of plagiarism in her works caused her to commit suicide prior to the start of the series. Her death set the events of the series into motion, causing Altair's hatred towards humanity and leaving Sōta traumatized, as he did nothing to help her. Her real name is Yuna Shimazaki.

Manga

A manga adaptation by Daiki Kase began its serialization on February 18, 2017 in the March 2017 issue of the Monthly Sunday Gene-X magazine published by Shogakukan.[2] Another manga adaptation by Yūki Kumagai that will serve as a spin-off to the main anime series that focuses on a different set of characters titled Re:Creators One More! (Re:CREATORS わんもあ！) will be serialized in the Monthly Shōnen Sunday magazine also published by Shogakukan.[3]

Anime

The series' original concept is by Rei Hiroe and it is directed by Ei Aoki.[4] Hiroe is providing the original character designs, Ryuichi Makino is providing the adapted character designs and Hiroyuki Sawano is composing the music for the anime. The series began airing in Japan from April 8, 2017 on Tokyo MX and other television networks,[5] and is being simulcast exclusively on Amazon's Amazon Video service.[6] The first opening theme is "gravityWall" by SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]:Tielle & Gemie, and the ending theme song is "NewLook" by Mashiro Ayano.[1] The second opening theme is "sh0ut" by SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]:Tielle & Gemie, and the ending theme song is "Rubicon" (ルビコン, Rubikon) by Sangatsu no Phantasia.[7] The anime will run for 22 episodes with 3 special programs.[8]
