Amritsar Mail

Amritsar Mail is a passenger train (train numbers 13005/13006) operated by Indian Railways which connects the eastern Indian city of Kolkata with the northern Indian city of Amritsar. It is more popularly known as Punjab Mail because during the pre-independence period it used to run as the Punjab Mail between Kolkata (then Calcutta) and Lahore (now in Pakistan).

The Amritsar Mail is a normal mail/express class train of Indian Railways travelling at a speed of 56 km/hr. It has Sleeper, Three tier AC, Two tier AC, First class AC types of coaches 3 Unreserved coach one RMS coach and One Military Reserved Compartment. Pantry service is available with this train. It leaves Howrah at 19:10 hrs and takes the Howrah-Delhi main line via Patna to reach Mughalsarai from where it proceeds towards Amritsar. This train is generally hauled by Hwh Wap4. Once this was the best link from Kolkata to Amritsar but now it is facing tough competition from superfast trains like Akal Takht Express and Durgiana express. It has a peak speed of 115 km/h between Dankuni and Bardhaman.

Train No.13006 leaves Amritsar Jn at 06:45 PM and reach Howrah Jn day after another at 07:20 AM. Train No.13005 leaves Hawrah Jn at 07:10 PM and reach Amritsar Jn day after another at 08:55 AM. Train covers 55 stations during the journey of approximately 26 hours. The train gets delayed often up to 3 hours during summer and up to 7 hours during winter due to its low precedence en route. Lots of overtakes during the way. However Pantry Car food is of Good Quality. RPF duty Squad present
