Cult of Chucky is an upcoming American supernatural slasher film written and directed by Don Mancini, who is the Child's Play franchise's creator and sole writer to date. The seventh installment of the franchise, it stars Brad Dourif as Chucky, with a supporting cast of Fiona Dourif, Alex Vincent, Jennifer Tilly and Summer H. Howell – all of whom are returning cast members from the previous six installments.
The film began production in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in January 2017. The film will be released with an additional unrated version set to be distributed by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment via Blu-ray, DVD and VOD[2] on October 3, 2017.
Premise
Nica Pierce has spent four years in a mental institution after members of her family were murdered, a crime she did not commit. Her psychiatrist gives her a Good Guy doll as a therapeutic tool. Soon afterwards, a new string of murders take place around the asylum, making Nica suspect that Chucky, the possessed doll behind the crimes she was accused of and whom she has concluded is a figment of her imagination, is behind her predicament. Meanwhile Andy, Chucky's old nemesis and original child victim, comes to Nica's aid, while dealing with Tiffany, Chucky's former wife.[2]

Production
Development
In December 2013, following the release of Curse of Chucky, series creator Don Mancini confirmed that he was planning on developing a seventh installment in the Chucky franchise.[6] By February 2015, Mancini was in the process of writing the script for the film.[7] A year later, Mancini, Jennifer Tilly and Fiona Dourif confirmed that shooting would soon begin for the film.[8] In December 2016, the production office for the film was opened in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.[9] On January 5, 2017, the premise, cast, production schedule and distribution details for Cult of Chucky were revealed, with shooting set to commence four days later.[2]
Casting
On January 5, 2017, the principal cast for Cult of Chucky was announced, featuring the talent of Brad Dourif as Chucky, Fiona Dourif as Nica Pierce, Alex Vincent as Andy Barclay, Jennifer Tilly as Tiffany and Summer H. Howell as Alice.[3][4] Each of the first announced members were featured in previous films, with Brad Dourif and Vincent from Child's Play (1988), Tilly from Bride of Chucky (1998), and Fiona Dourif and Howell from Curse of Chucky (2013). Cult of Chucky marks Vincent's first principal role in the franchise since he was a child actor in Child's Play 2, twenty-seven years prior.[3] Although Andy was in Child's Play 3, he was played by a different actor, Justin Whalin due to the events taking place 8 years after the second film, which came out less than a year earlier. Andy also appeared in Curse of Chucky, during a post-credits scene.
Filming
Principal photography for Cult of Chucky began in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada on January 9, 2017, with the cinematographer from Curse of Chucky, Michael Marshall, returning in the same capacity.[2] Filming ended on February 17, 2017.
