The club has played in the highest league, the Liga Super for several seasons before being relegated to the second division in 2014 season. But after spending two years in Premier League, the club achieved promotion back to the top-tier division again after finish second in 2016 Liga Premier season and will play in Liga Super for 2017 season.

Ownership
The club is own by a private company, PKNS Sports Sdn Bhd. As part of privatisation effort by Football Malaysia LLP, every club in Liga Super and Liga Premier will be required to obtain Football Association of Malaysia Club Licensing Regulations (FAM CLR) license in order to compete in Malaysian League. The team has been incorporated as a private company under the name "PKNS Sports Sdn Bhd" in 2016 and has left its affiliation with Football Association of Selangor (FAS) as in order to comply with the licensing requirement.[4]
However, the club has chosen to affiliate itself with Selangor Malays Football Association in order to secure future fate for itself and its nine other youth teams during the conflict between itself and FAS when FAS decided to halt PKNS F.C. participation in 2017 Liga Super.[5][6] It has been clarified by FAM that PKNS F.C. has not been needed to affiliate itself with any other FAM affiliates in order to compete in competition managed by FMLLP.[7]
