The Neo Geo X had a dock station like the Nintendo Switch. Since the Switch is considered hybrid, why is the Neo Geo X considered a handheld? --[[User:Apolo13|Apolo13]] ([[User talk:Apolo13|talk]]) 22:09, 17 July 2017 (UTC) |

Comparison picture of resolutions.
Its unclear which is which, it's confusing. someone fix it please. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 147.143.95.28 (talk) 14:07, 3 December 2014 (UTC)

I have tried to edit this article to make it less promotional in nature— Preceding unsigned comment added by Starkastor (talk • contribs)
Licensing
Another controversial decision by Tommo/SNK is that the operating system (OpenDingux), the emulator (Final Burn Alpha), and most of the other software is released under the GNU GPLv2, or the MAME license. This prohibits use without permission in commercial products, and also prohibits using the code in any commercial entity whatsoever.
It is simply false, GPLv2 doesn't prohibit you from selling GPLv2 software nor prohibit selling hardware with GPLv2 code, (android too would be in contrast with GPLv2 since Linux is GPLv2), the problem lies in mixing GPLv2 and proprietary license within one medium, which most likely are not compatible since the proprietary should be released in GPLv2 as well.
- The GPLv2 does not prohibit redistribution alongside software with an incompatible license, as long as they remain independent and not mere parts of a single program. See this part of the GPL FAQ:
However, in many cases you can distribute the GPL-covered software alongside your proprietary system. To do this validly, you must make sure that the free and non-free programs communicate at arms length, that they are not combined in a way that would make them effectively a single program.
- It's not clear whether it applies in this situation, though.
- The only clear problem is the MAME license, which (contrary to the GPL) disallows commercial use (making it a non-free/non-open source software license).
Name
Judging by the official site, the system itself is called NEOGEO X (all caps), the package including the docking station is the NEOGEO X GOLD. Without the caps, it looks like preferred style is NeoGeo. So I moved the name to Neogeo X - like Soulcalibur, which uses camel case in the lead, but standard capitalization in the article title. I think it's a bit premature to say that the Neogeo name applies retroactively over "Neo Geo" though. The official site uses "Neogeo" but it's not consistent; e.g. the tagline on the website says "Witness the Rebirth of the Neo Geo." And the current official logos still treat it as two words. --Jtalledo (talk) 14:30, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
Speculation?
Neo Geo Advanced Entertainment System X - it's on photos of Ninja Master's game card and packing on official site.

- Hi Xnxn390. The compatibility information has been folded into the other section. As for the purported name, every source has referred to it simply as the Neo Geo X or some variation, without the AES. So intimating that it could be called anything else is at this point speculative and not verified. --Jtalledo (talk) 20:10, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
Neo Geo AES and Neo Geo X resolution comparision
Add it? It's in article but tagged - "< !-- Add it?: ... -->". Xnxn390 (talk) 16:13, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
- Hi again Xnxn390. Looking at the image, it's two sized windows in Windows XP, maybe not the best picture. Since it just contains XP UI elements, it might not be considered a free use image. Maybe a pair of duplicate fair use screenshots of an actual game (one of the pre-loaded ones maybe) sized at the different resolutions might be a good idea - I'm guessing the console will use some kind of blur filter. --Jtalledo (talk) 16:29, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
- I thought about it's not the best picture, but I didn't know if it's good enough for comparison (temporarily). Soon I will make better. --Xnxn390 (talk) 12:41, 25 October 2012 (UTC)
- OK, thanks. --Jtalledo (talk) 13:35, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

...and the first produced Neo-Geo in 8 years...?
"...and the first (produced) Neo-Geo specimen in 8 years..." Now will be it good? --Xnxn390 (talk) 14:09, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
