About Template:Chinese and Template:Infobox WorldScouting and the typesetting problems with aligned pictures in an article

I've found a problem. When Template:Chinese and Template:Infobox WorldScouting used, the position of left or right aligned pictures cannot fit the correspond section(s) in an article (e.g. Scouts of China). Edit Wikipedia article to appear in Google search

I have created an Wikipedia article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grindlay_Peerless) but only the Netherlands version appears when searching for 'Grindlay Peerless' in an google.com and google.co.uk rather than the English version I have created. I have changes the advanced settings for the page so that it can be indexed by search engines but this does not seem to have made any difference. Could you please help me rectify this so that the English page can be found as well? Thank you. "Followed by..." in book infobox

I was just perusing the Firefox (novel) article, and notice that in the infobox it says that it was followed by Wolfsbane.

Chronologically, this is true - Wolfsbane was released directly after Firefox, but it's confusing for a reader because Firefox had a direct sequel (indeed one that starts the instant Firefox ends,) Firefox Down. The infobox suggests that Wolfsbane is a sequel to Firefox. It also seems confusing that lower down in the article it broaches Firefox down as being the sequel - so one might wonder why Wolfsbane is listed in the infobox.

It would seem to make sense that "followed by" should be the sequel? Is there a precedent for this? Chaheel Riens (talk) 12:42, 17 July 2017 (UTC)

Hello, Chaheel Riens. The best place to discuss improvements to an article would be the article's talk page; but if you think that you can improve an article, you are welcome to be bold and edit it. I haven't looked at the article, but from your description, perhaps it needs a little expansion to clarify that the publication order is not the same as the internal order. --ColinFine (talk) 13:00, 17 July 2017 (UTC)

There's some discussion of this at the Talk page for the infobox here. For what it's worth Template:Infobox film used to have a similar parameter and it was deprecated precisely due to editorial issues over its usage and generally a consensus that navboxes were preferable. A more appropriate place to make the request is the talk page Talk:Colantonio Incorporated, and I have copied your request to there, and added the template {{request edit}}, which will put it on a list of suggested edits. There is a backlog on this list; but what I will say is that any volunteer who picks up your request will have to go searching for a source for each of the pieces of information you have asked to be included, because only information which has been reliably published should go in a Wikipedia article. You can reduce their work, and so make it more likely that somebody will be willing to look at your suggestions, by finding the references yourself. Death Euphemisms...

Old Article name lingering

Hi, yes! There's this Article that's been on my user page for several months now, it recently got moved to a new name and nowadays whenever I go check on it, it redirects to the Article and it's new name, but the OLD name is still in my watchlist. I'm trying to remove the old articles name from my watchlist add the updated one, but it only adds a 2nd duplicate of said Article. Having no luck trying to fix this dilemma.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Sorry about that, I meant Watchlist. There are 2 articles actually, Aladdin (franchise) and Happy Feet. Both of the these articles were at one point known as "Aladdin (Disney franchise)" and "Happy Feet (franchise)", there old names are still in my watchlist and I can't seem to remove them.

Zucat The old names for the articles are probably redirects to the new names and when you click on them you get taken to the new name, which isn't the one in your watchlist. YOu can either remove them as Lourdes recommends, or you can click on the old name up at the top immediately after the redirect and it will take you to the page for the old name, which you can then remove.Naraht (talk) 16:49, 18 July 2017 (UTC)

Help:Cite errors/Cite error ref no input

I am trying to use the Template:Efn so that I can include a big comment from Patric Kennedy as well as the reference to where it was found. Someone on a different page that I wrote corrected my references so that the paragraph belo included a (a)footnote for the words while daydreaming...and a reference number 1 for the url:

The Template:Efn is in the Carol Buckley page but not in the Irshad Manji page. That is as far as I have gotten.

@Starling0616: I've fixed one of the "efn" notes by adding }} at the end. I haven't fixed the other one, because I'm not sure where the end of the note is supposed to be. @Robie M: Which link in which infobox? See Help:Link for general help. It describes how to make links with the source editor but if you edit a displayed template parameter with VisualEditor then you write the value in the same way. PrimeHunter (talk) 17:01, 18 July 2017 (UTC)

@PrimeHunter: I am refering to musical artist infoboxes and internal links. For example if the artist's instrument is a "piano", how would I hyperlink the "piano" text to the wikipedia article of a piano. Same with country of birth, genres, etc. All these in the visual editor inside the infobox. For more examples, check the infobox on "deadmau5" wikipedia artist page. If you open the edit window for the page, you'll see at the bottom: <ref></ref>. If you remove these tags, the error message should go away. Incidentally, this appears to be an early draft and is not ready for primetime. It's completely unsourced and the formatting is pretty consistently messed up. Suggest you work on it in your sandbox instead. Could someone who's not about to go offline move if for the OP? Rivertorch^FIRE_WATER 17:20, 18 July 2017 (UTC)

(edit conflict)@Ellenb7580: The error is fairly simple, there are ref tags on the page (I.e. <ref></ref>) without any content within them. I have removed them. I have also fixed some of the layout errors. I would suggest that you try to find articles about a similar subject and see how they are laid out etc. You will also need to add some sources to verify what the article contains. Upload infobox JPG image without worse-quality version being displayed

I just uploaded Sonic_the_Hedgehog_Dic_Poster.jpg for the infobox in Sonic the Hedgehog (TV series).

Using Gimp, I shrunk the original image down to 300px wide, uploaded it, and added it to the infobox. But when I looked at the page, I saw that image displayed was a significantly-lower-quality file called 250px-Sonic_the_Hedgehog_Dic_Poster.jpg, with all sorts of ugly JPG artifacts.

So then I shrank the original image to 250 px wide and replaced the previous one. The result was a new, even worse 250px-Sonic_the_Hedgehog_Dic_Poster.jpg being displayed in the infobox. (I've since reverted this edit.)

The nice-looking 250-px-wide version I uploaded is 80 KB, which is quite small. Why is Wikipedia still degrading its quality if it's already the correct size? Is there any way to display a decent-quality JPG image in an infobox?

EDIT: I just noticed that on the Zootopia page, the 220px-wide file https:/upwiki/wikipedia/en/e/ea/Zootopia.jpg is being directly displayed, rather than a worse-quality version. Hi @FrostedPenguin87: This could be due to a variety of reasons. The file displays fine on my computer, so I would assume that you have a slow internet and the file is being shown as a lower resolution in order to speed up the loading time or you have data saving mode activated on your web browser. If you have a 4K or similar display, you might find the image is lower resolution as non-free media files should be replaced with a smaller version to comply with Wikipedia's non-free content policy and United States copyright law. According to Wikipedia's policy for non-free content, the amount of copyrighted work used under fair use should be as little as possible. In particular, non-free media on Wikipedia should not be usable as substitutes for the original work. A high-resolution non-free image is questionable fair use and may be deleted per Wikipedia's copyright policy. (description from Template:Non-free reduce). I hope that helps! Hmm... Today, I went back to the same page on the same computer, and the image looks much better! (No relevant edits have happened on the page or the image.) I notice that now, when I right-click the image in the infobox and click "view image," it takes me to the original image, on wikimedia.org, instead of the "250px-" version. Daylen thanks for altering the all caps. It was the edits that this person made to the Chowdhury (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) article that are in question. ref materials. Can i use?

I recently came into ownership of 1000s of old books, magazines, and journals. Many have good references in regard to Wiki but most of these references are not findable on-line. But are great such as older versions of Time Magazine/ Newsweek etc. but too old for on-line. So here are my questions:

Question on references

I am new to Wiki and I tried to ask this question somewhere else. I have access to thousands of old magazine, books, etc that pre-exist the internet. • Hello, Formbearer. Yes, offline sources are completely OK; although, just as for online sources, you need to check their reliability before including them in support of a particular statement. You cite them the same way as you would cite online sources (except that you cannot give a link); take a look at Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners if you haven't already, and come back if you have any further questions. Changing an article title (4 years out of date)

Hi, The English-language University of Toulon entry still uses the old name, "University of the South, Toulon-Var", despite a number of users complaining about this over time. The university was renamed in 2013. The page needs to be renamed as "University of Toulon", but I do not believe I have the level of access to make that change. How is it done? @PaulJCompton: Article titles are changed by moving the page. Your account is old enough for this but I have moved University of the South, Toulon-Var to University of Toulon. Object animation.

Hi there. I am interested in animations like this one in Wikipedia[2] which is an animation of a human hand. There are thousands more, like chemical formulas, etc. What I really need is to design a somewhat modified bones for an artificial hand, eventually perhaps I will have 3-D coordinates for some of the bones, although I actually will begin with one bone only and present it as a 3-D animation. I hope my description makes sense and I want to know if it can be done. I clicked "Edit" on one of the animations to get some insight how you do it and saw a very long hexadecimal number. It's an animated GIF file made with external software and then uploaded like other files. File:Scaphoid bone (left hand) - animation01.gif mentions the software used for this specific file. The link should have gone to Blender (software) (I have fixed this). It's also listed at Wikipedia:Graphics Lab and commons:Commons:Graphic Lab. You may be able to get help there. Updated user interface in editing

Hi! I've been noticing a new user interface in the editing environment, particularly where edit summaries go. It now shows a count of available characters left, which is a great improvement! But there seem to be a few bugs with it, mainly that I can't see the text once it fills up the field and disappears into the right side, whereas the previous interface followed the text as I was writing. It's frustrating. I tried checking my "Preferences" panel, but found no suitable solution there. I hope I explained myself in an understandable way. Is anybody else experiencing this? Help Requested with COI editor who *just* doesn't get it

Not sure where to ask, but I've got an admitted COI editor SVHwikieditor (States they are a member of the administration) who basically is rewriting Waldorf School of Baltimore. While the old version isn't great, the new one is unreferenced and NNPOV. I've posted to the person's talk page, but they just don't seem to care. @KapilKumarIndian: We have five million articles. There is a reason the posting instructions say "Please give the exact title or URL of any page you want help with". The statement in 2017 in India was unsourced and used poor English. Based on sources like [3], "militants" and "terrorists" are both names used by India about the people they kill and not their own forces. Problem with the Ankara Province infobox

The population number in the Ankara Province infobox are stuck. I looked in the history and it shows the 2010 population in 2007, even though the population in the code is from the 2000 census. I manage a band, and they have an old picture with a member no longer in the group on their page. How can I get it updated?

I manage the band Dälek, and their profile picture is 9 years old, and also has a former member in the picture. I would like to see this picture replaced with something more recent, and of higher quality. I also would like to know if there is a way to add another album to their discography. I would try to make the edits myself, but I don't want to violate Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Adding an album to the discography would probably be fine, but if you want to be safe regarding WP:COI the best way is to make an edit to the talk page requesting the change you want.

In the case of photographs, the best thing to do would be to take a picture of the band today yourself, upload it to [commons.wikimedia.org] under a free license, and then again request an edit on the talk page. Alternatively, if you know of a more up-to-date freely-licensed image, you can request that that be used on the talk page. Caeciliusinhorto (talk) 08:36, 20 July 2017 (UTC)

I made an edit (791272342). It was backed up by media files I provided. Then it was reverted by an experienced user masqueradiing as an ip. no references for the revert was given, no message on my talk page or the article talk page. the same happened on the correspondening german page. At least the reverter did not hide behind an ip. but still no message on the talk page. only the proposal to add the info instead to another page - but that does not exist. @Schelm500: The English Wikipedia allows anonymous editing. Even if the IP has an account (which I see no evidence of), editing without logging in is only disallowed by Wikipedia:Sock puppetry in certain cases I see no sign of here. It's relatively rare and not required to post to the talk page when you revert an edit. Explaining it in the edit summary is correct. A revert causes an alert with a "View changes" link where the edit summary is displayed. The reversion in the German Wikipedia also explained it in the edit summary.[6] The mentioned page "0-Euro-Schein" does exist: de:0-Euro-Schein. To answer the question you originally asked, Ataylor65, Wikipedia does not have one standard citation format, but will accept any reasonable format. See WP:CITEVAR. However, a given article should use a consistent format, so if all the cites in a given article already use a particular format, stick with that one. If you choose to use our Citation templates, then our home-grown styles CS1 or CS2 will be used, which are similar to Chicago, but not identical. See Referencing for Beginners and the pages linked from there.

Related autoblocks

WP:AUTOBLOCK notes that it's important for admins to review the block list, since inappropriate autoblocks (i.e. ones that we wouldn't implement intentionally, not inappropriate decisions by a blocking admin) can sometimes be detected by the same block resulting in a bunch of autoblocks in a short period of time.

Is it possible to get a list of all autoblocks associated with a single original non-auto block action? Special:AutoblockList has a few sets of entries in which each appears to be associated with the same block (the rationale, complete with the username of the blocked user, is identical), but they all have different autoblock numbers, so aside from the block rationale (which won't help much if the blocking admin just grabbed a reason from the Special:Block dropdown), I can't see a way to do this. Weird. The problem is definitely with the table, but I can't find it. I can make the sections (and their titles) display properly or the table display properly but not both at the same time. On a related note, I'm not clear why there's a separate Photos section. (That's neither here nor there re the question; any section placed below the table gets its top chopped off.) That's it: it is a matter of style, not a technical requirement as you wrote above ('the whole article would have to have its references structured that way'). And the actual problem with the OP's edit was a triple of errors:
1° mismatched names for a ref ("Sangode et al 2017" vs. rename14),
2° wrong closing tag (<ref> ... <ref> instead of <ref> ... </ref>), and
3° lacking closing braces }} for {{reflist}}

Please change his bio. I think someone got him confused with Chester Bennington and put his death down as July 20, 2017. Its kinda disturbing caue he is still alive.
