Matteo Curallo (born in Asti, 25 January 1976) is an Italian musician and composer.
Biography
He studied electronic music at the Conservatorium G.Verdi in Turin and holds a course of Sound Design at the Brera Academy in Milan.[1]
His career began in 2001 with Modho’s album “Soluzioni”, working on the music and the artistic production.[2]
Music for the theatre
In the 2000s he worked as a theatrical composer for shows played in Italy and abroad, such as Il Deserto Dei Tartari, Polvere, Il Piccolo Principe and La Gabbianella e Il Gatto.[3]
He put various shows to music for the Teatro Piemonte Europa Foundation, which were played in Italy and France, such as:
- “Bar Franco-Italien” written by Myriam Tanant, directed by Jean Claude Penchenat.[4]
- “Remake”, with Giulia Lazzarini (actrice in Strehler, Ronconi), Also In Piccolo Teatro of Milan.[5]
In 2008 he won together with the Nut Performance group the Gran.
It was chosen by the jury: “for it's high level of execution and for the innovative performance of the work, not excluding its original and well dosed mix between visual art, movement, use of words and live electronic music”.
Music for the record companies
In 2009 he produced a few tracks for the show “Concerto senza Titolo” with Antonella Ruggiero.
Other than his experience with Modho, he also worked with:
- Luca Morino (singer in Mau Mau) for the “Mistic Turistic -Moleskine Ballads” project, disc and itinerant show of images and music.
- Singer songwriter Roberta Carrieri, for the artistic production of the album “Dico a tutti così” (finalist at the Premio Teneo 2009 as opera prima)
- Elisa Casile, winner of Sanremo Lab 2008 for her debut album “Orchidee”.
- Mauro Ermanno Giovanardi and Massimo Cotto since 2011 in the theatrical show “Chelsea Hotel”[6]
He worked as a writer for:
- Andrea Bocelli (“Nelle tue mani” from “Il Gladiatore”).
- La Crus (“Io Confesso” revelation track at Festival di Sanremo 2011 written with M.E.Giovanardi).
Music for the cinema, TV and commercial spots
- In 2012 he signed to produce music and sound design for the horror movie “Evil things”, nominated for the best soundtrack for the “La Chioma di Berenice 2013” Prize, at the Festival Internazionale del Cinema di Roma.
- He modified the title track “Hey Sister” (written by Violante Placido) nominated as the best original song at Nastri D’Argento 2013.
- He collaborated with Boosta in the arrangement of “1992”, a series about “tangentopoli”, directed by Giuseppe Gagliardi, aired in Autumn of 2014 on Sky Atlantic.[7]
- In 2014 he wrote the music for “Pericolo Verticale”, a factual series of Simone Gandolfo, on Sky Uno.[8]
- He put the innovative web series “Under” to music, Ivan Silvestrini (2014)
- In 2015 he worked on the soundtracks of the docufilms produced by Sky Cinema and Sky Arte: “Firenze e gli Uffizi in 3D/4K”[9] “San Pietro e le Basiliche Papali 3D” “Raffaello, il Principe delle Arti”[10]
- He composed music for Giovanni Bognetti’s film “I babysitter” (2016).[11]
- In 2016 he composed music for the series “Donne”[12], on Rai 1, based on Andrea Camilleri’s book. [13]
- He put various commercial spots to music (Ferrero, Natuzzi, Heineken, Italotreno).[14]
