Alfons Mitgutsch, known as Ali Mitgutsch, born August 21, 1935 in Munich, Germany, is a German author of picture books and professional advertising Illustrator. He is known as father of the Wimmelbilder-books.[1]

Life

As a child the Mitgutsch family was evacuated to Allgäu in World War II due airstrike back bombing on Munich.[2] Return the Munich he trained at Graphical Academy as a lithographer which is a former profession of manual photo editing, layout and printing. In the 1960s, Kurt Seelmann, a psychologist for children inspired him to create a special kind of picture books for children.

Mitgutsch became famous for his Wimmelbilder-books made for children. Opening such book at any page it shows lots of everyday scenes in a single painting across both pages on top.

Rundherum in meiner Stadt (Around in my city) released in 1968 is known as the first Wimmel-book in German-speaking countries.[3]

Mitgutsch is living in Munich, the city of his birth where he caught most of the inspirations for his paintings.[1]
