The Detroit Project is a student organization at the University of Michigan with the mission of connecting the University community with the Detroit Community through active service learning. Each year, the group holds weekly programs with over 200 students volunteering as mentors in schools, churches, and non-profits in the Brightmoor and Southwest neighborhoods of Detroit. Also, every April the group brings over 1,000 volunteers for a one-day service-learning event known as DP Day. |

The Detroit Project is a student organization at the University of Michigan with the mission of connecting the University community with the Detroit Community through active service learning. Each year, the group holds weekly programs with over 200 students volunteering as mentors in schools, churches, and non-profits in the Brightmoor and Southwest neighborhoods of Detroit. Also, every April the group brings over 1,000 volunteers for a one-day service-learning event known as DP Day.

Also known as "The DP," the organization was founded in 1999 by Circle K, another campus service organization.
Also, The Detroit Project is an ongoing project to inform American citizens about the disadvantages of SUV driving and to lobby automakers to start producing automobiles which are more fuel efficient, in order to reduce America's dependence on foreign oil. It is headed by Arianna Huffington.
A.k.a Americans for Fuel Efficient Cars (AFEC) The Detroit Project is a nonprofit group dedicated to decreasing America's reliance on foreign oil. AFEC was co-founded by columnist Arianna Huffington, film producer Lawrence Bender, environmental activist Laurie David, and movie and TV agent Ari Emanuel.
AFEC goal is to mount a citizens’ ad campaign aimed at getting Detroit to build cars and SUVs that get more miles per gallon and jolting US leaders into taking action to reduce dependence on foreign oil.
