The Indian Institute of Management Bodh Gaya (IIM-BG)[1] is an autonomous public business school in Bodh Gaya, Bihar in India.[2][3]It is the 16th Indian Institute of Management set up by the government as per the 2014 Union budget of India.[4]
The academic session for the first batch of Post Graduation Program(PGP) in Management was inaugurated by HRD Minister, Smriti Irani on 31 August 2015.[5][6]. The institution is being mentored by Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, the oldest IIM in India, which successfully mentored IIM Ranchi in the past.[7]
Location
The institute is located in the temple city of Bodh Gaya, the most sacred pilgrimage site for buddhists. As Gautama Buddha obtained his enlightenment here, it attracts tourists and pilgrims from all over the world. It is also well connected to Calcutta, Patna, Delhi etc. through a network of road, rail and international airways.
Campus
The institute will be operating from the Institute of Distance Education building of the Magadh University[8] , till its 119 acre permanent campus is constructed in a few years’ time. It constitutes a newly constructed, state-of-the-art boys and girls hostel located within the Magadh University Campus, with amenities for sports such as badminton, volleyball, football, basketball etc.
Academic Program
Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM)
The Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM) is a two-year, regular, full-time residential programme. Admission to the PGP course of IIM Bodh Gaya is conducted each year through the Common Admission Test (CAT). The PGP course consists of six trimesters spread over the two years. The first year constitutes the fundamental courses which lay the premises for various management roles. Between the first and second year, students are expected to go through an eight-week summer internship. The second year constitutes the elective courses which provide diverse opportunities for students to study and specialise in their specific fields of interest. IIM Bodh Gaya follows the same pedagogy of its mentor, IIM Calcutta.[9] Students of IIM Bodh Gaya follow the PGP curriculum of IIM Calcutta and are taught by their faculty members itself. The overall quality as well as design of the curriculum at IIM Bodh Gaya is also overseen by IIM Calcutta. The curriculum involves intensive case studies, engrossing field work, role plays and continuous corporate interaction workshops. The program has been conceived to provide world-class management education to meet the requirements of enterprises across sectors by producing highly skilled management professionals.
The convocation ceremony of the first batch was attended by the honorable Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey as the Chief Guest.[10]
